Utah Conditions

Just don't buy property. You don't want to own a house that doesn't have water due to lack of supply.
Ain't that the truth! I love Utah. Went twice last winter and will probably go for a couple weeks this winter. But I'd feel pretty uneasy investing in property there or living there long term. Water issues and crowding due to explosive growth, which only makes the water issue more critical.

I feel like there was plenty of issues like that when I was in my 20s & posting on Internet forums (2000-2010), but if I bought property out west instead of here in Upstate NY, I’d have several hundred thousand dollars more than I have right now.

So I would say that you never really know, and that if someone wants to buy property out west (or in the Caribbean, or in Florida, or wherever), they should just roll the dice & do it.

The last day of my trip was possibly my best ski day ever, a full on powder day at my new favorite resort, Snowbird.

They said they got a foot Monday night into Tuesday, but actually they seemed to have 2-3 feet of fresh snow on certain terrain. The storm total from Sunday to Tuesday morning was 38 inches, and it felt like it.

Additionally, everything opened on-time, and crowds were minimal. Other than some bad visibility, you couldn't have asked for a better day.

I've always loved skiing, but I never knew it could be this good. I can't wait to visit Utah again. As @MC2 said, maybe I should consider moving there.

Did you get to the gad trees?
Yes, I rode every lift except Baldy and Baby Thunder which were closed. I mostly skied off the Mineral Basin, Little Cloud, and Gad 2 lifts. I would've taken more runs off Peruvian but the visibility on that part of the mountain was really bad.

I skied Snowbird Wednesday and Thursday this week. Visibility was a shit-show, but the snow was stupid. Some of the stuff I got into was so deep, it was simply beyond description.

Went to Alta today ... the storm had cleared out, temps plunged, but blue skies and sunshine were the order of the day. While there wasn't too much untouched left (it's been hit pretty hard) unless you wanted to hike and I'm too old for that, but there were still some incredible runs to be found. Had the good fortune to spend the afternoon with a local, and he brought us into some stuff that made what we skied the previous two days look like hard packed.

The Baldy chair in Mineral Basin opened today and we were able to ski back from Alta to Snowbird in the afternoon. The Road to Provo had opened a little while earlier, so we were still able to find some awesome lines in there as well when we crossed back into Snowbird.

Two more days to go ... not expecting the next two days to live up to the previous three, but there's still a lot to be found if you know where to look, or have some local experience to guide you.

Gonna be hard to go back to skiing in the East after this trip!!!

Quick summary: Visibility matters, Beaver Mountain is a new favorite, and I need to find a way to go west more often. Other days were Powder Mountain and Snowbasin. Beaver and Snowbasin were new for me.

Here's the narrative I wrote into which I'll insert links to pages of pictures and update with more details when time permits:

Many of the pictures I'll be organizing into those pages are dumped into this Google drive folder:
