I have always worked hard but lived within my means. Drove cars for 10-12 years then gave them to kids, took modest vacations. My hobbies of golf, skiing and drinking are expensive. But those are my vices and add to a happy balance in life. If all goes well will be semi retired next year at 56. Could retire completely but the thought of playing golf every day is scary.

Moving to our property the mountains certainly isn't the simple life. It's a huge project. The blasting really brings that home for me.

Tiro is right, bedrock. If there is to be a house with a dry basement or crawlspace we'll likely need to blast. Not a surprise really, but wish it wasn't so.

It's not about storage. I don't want any space in my house I (and a cat!) can't access.

I do trust my builder. He's telling me we'll need to blast. I'll make sure I understand our choices fully once our spot is excavated. Might be able to convince the Mrs to build something smaller. Not sure if that will matter.

Simple is my mantra. Always has been. I know I annoy some folks with my simple and straightforward solutions to most problems. I know I've annoyed plenty of bosses!

The world has become so complicated in many regards it is no wonder I retired at 57. Now I'm full time simple.

It’s hard to ski or golf everyday mainly due to weather.
