The Fire and Rain and Smoke Thread

What Matt said was that the weather (blocking high?) that allowed the smoke to be remain concentrated over such great distances, was unusual. We had 300+ levels in NJ 500 miles from the source, for nearly a day. It was not a big picture thing.

We're at about 60 today, you can see some haze for sure.

When you talk about weather in a lifetime, that’s a bigger picture.

If the GFS is correct, the fires should be out by tues..

Humans have definitely caused extinction of species,
not counting all the dang invasives folks continue to move around.
Filthy animals.

It’s nice outside.

There is a great deal of cognitive dissonance in humans when it comes to addressing issues of a changing climate. We all know we are complicit in the anthropomorphic impacts and yet also know that as individuals we have very little ability to have an impact on a meaningful scale. We can say, "oh the skies look great today" while also acknowledging that what we experienced the past week is not normal and yet still occurring on a far greater frequency. Having hope in the youth to make a difference is as much of a bullshit kick the can approach and saying the sky isn't falling and everything is gravy. My partner works in the school system, she described Wednesday as like 911 with parents pulling students out of class and many more breaking down into tears and having panic attacks. We can all do better but honestly its a game of adaptation at this point, at least until we get better as a human race on putting aside the bullshit and agreeing on something for a change. At the end of the day we are a bunch of adaptable resilient little monkeys playing a never before seen game of fuck around and find out.

The Onondaga’s are known as “Keepers of The Fire”.
"Preparation of the fields began in late March with the men using a combination of controlled fires and stone axes to bring down the trunks and clear the fields. Stumps were uprooted and other brush was burned before hoeing could begin."
It’s a jungle out there.
