That August Itch

First job outta school was purifying poison ivy.
Good techniques a must.
Wine & cider chemistry isn’t scary.
Whiskey chemistry could be dangerous.

What kind of Volks ya be runnin now?
Well...occasionally I will be on the 90eights...widest ski I have ever owned...My every day skis are AC 50s and I have 3+ a pair I might bring back to life. If they didn't have that issue with compatibility with bindings, they would be my uphill skis too.

The tent sale at Alpine Sport Shop in Saratoga is traditionally my start to ski season. I stopped by on my way to work briefly on Thursday then went back with my daughter and her boyfriend Saturday. I always buy at lease one pair of ski poles but while my dauther was trying on boots I wandered around the store. There was this set up leaning in a corner. Volkl skis set up with Solomon AT bindings and a note "w/skins"...Mine now! She got new boots and gloves and since he bought her the boots, he got a free T-shirt...Let it Snow!
Pictures please!

It took me 3 tries to get a C in Organic Chemistry. That was the worst class I’ve ever had.
I was an honors math major and computer science major to start & only took organic because they told me I may need it some day.
As a freshman Initially signed up for intro to chemistry for non-majors but switched it to the class for chemistry majors cause they used the same book we used in high school.
We had chemistry every day in high school vs. 3 times a week in college, with same book.
It saved some cash was an easy 2 semester A.
Organic chemistry can be a beautiful creative science.
Just don’t get any on ya.

Oh, I won’t be getting any of that on me ever again! That course gave me nightmares. My brain could not put those equations together at all. It almost broke me and my gf up! ?

Organic mainly deals with structures, properties and reactions.

Shouldn’t be many equations but symbols, abbreviations and nomenclature can be a bitch.
Molecules don’t really know what an equation is, they just roll on thermodynamically.
Kinda like y'all on bikes in the desert.
Yer good at what ya do RA.

My father was a professor of chemistry, with a specialty in organic. He liked to tease any new nurse after he retired when he went for a medical appointment or during a couple of hospital stays. They usually groaned pretty loudly when he would mention organic chemistry. ;)

My reaction to his profession was to stay as far away from the sciences as possible. I could do pretty well but only took what was required in high school. Only took physics in college because it was required for math majors.

Back to skiing . . . had a good time at Big SNOW yesterday. Met up with a couple folks from TheSkiDiva. Brought my own gear this time. DPS Phantom is much better than rental skis for glide. Last time I did the full rental package, along with DD and her BF, because we were on a tight schedule and he had to rent anyway. He was a never-ever. Was a very good introduction, complete with about 45 min with a roaming instructor for no extra charge. He wants to ski again. :)

When I was at Ole Miss we had an old visiting prof from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica. He came to Ole Miss cause it's an excellent school for the study of natural products chemistry (Pharmacognosy) & they receive a lot of Federal money. They now have the National Center for Natural Products Research on campus between the Chem and Pharmacy buildings. China had thousands of years of using traditional medicines and collaborations were established.

The old prof got with a few of his colleagues, who also came to Ole Miss as visiting profs, and they chipped in and bought a huge older Cadillac convertible. They'd take that big old boat and make weekend trips to various places throughout the south. Learned a lot from the stories he told of their adventures. It woulda made a great movie. The boat got dented a few times but nothing big. Nice man.

Anyone else getting that August itch yet? I’m not talking about the poison oak I have all over me right now but I’m referring to the upcoming season excitement. I just went into our storage closet to grab something and saw my new skis that I barely got to ski last season which gave me my first jab of stoke.

I’m not in a rush for winter but I know I’ll definitely be skiing this year as long as I can remain injury free. The last two years have been tougher than usual as far as that goes. I’m trying to find my new place and contentment with gearing down a level or two. Pain sucks!

So……feeling it yet?
Big time! August is when I start booking flights out west (Steamboat this winter), and buy more skis or ski related stuff.
