Tales from the Hinterlands, 2021-2022

Never see a Searchmont report, skied there once back in ‘95. Love the Wawa area and LSPP and pictographs. Drove around the big lake once and still a bunch of Ontario north and west.
Thanks for Eric’s pic link, nothing compares to Cdn Rockies , ok Alaska

Exactly. When people say to me, "oh, you live in northern Ontario," I point out that there is a lot more of Ontario north of where we are. In fact, most of it, at least geographically.
We don't mess around here in the land of the Northern Reindeer, Moose Milk and the far less known Maple syrup:

What a week of wacky weather we've had up here. Snow, lots of rain, freezing rain and then more snow. The chair paints a deceptive picture, really what we have to ski on is about six inches of lovely fluff on top of a thick but breakable rain crust, which is on top of a very supportive base layer.

As you can see, the dawg doesn't even break through up to her belly:

There is also a lot of this:

But skiing is fun, so we go anyway! Stay tuned, gonna sit on a chairlift on Monday, for the first time since February of 2020. What a world.

A fun day was had at Sir Sam's today, conditions were pretty good (MGG with a bit of new snow and a few scrapey spots). I have to admit that the "car as base lodge" concept does not fit with my lifetime of ski habits.

Especially when the real base lodge is so close:

As vertically challenged as Sir Sam's is, the variety of terrain more than makes up for it, the view is great, and what's not too like about a ski area with runs named Birdwatcher and Banana?

An accidental selfie reveals my complete helmet/mask/covid beard fail:

Fortunately, it was easy to deal with since the hill was so crowded:
