Tales from the Hinterlands, 2020-2021

BTW, check this out. C.P.P. = Canadian Powder Plan..or Canadian Pedal Plan, or Canadian Paddle plan... you get the picture.
Here in the Hinterlands we can collect our Federal Pension plan early while we’re still working (at a pro rated reduced rate.). I’m not taking any chances that it won’t be there to collect in 10 years so eff it, like Steve Miller, I’m taking the money and running..

I always thought "retirement" should be 50-60 'ish; decent health, financial means, kids are self sufficient to travel & enjoy life. Then come back and work it off 65-75 with wisdom, experience and grace, lol

My kids are grown and on their own doing fine, my wife is a retired teacher with a good pension (and works part time doing online tutoring). As for me, I’m going to start taking time off in the winter from my job to travel and hang out/live in different locales around the world. Putting the CPP away to finance the traveling, etc. The firm I work for is all good with me taking a few months leave every winter as that’s the slow season. Plus they won’t have to pay me. Win-win. I’ll continue working the rest of the time because I love using the left side of my brain.. I’m pretty sure it would atrophy quickly if all I did was play all day 24/7/365..
We were going to spend a month in New Zealand this winter, actually in February. That came to an sudden abrupt full stop for obvious reasons. So now we’re scheming on the same for next Winter, just for longer.

I’d be pretty cautious about retiring early. I know a few people that have and they’re now old and broke. Taking a step back or slowing down the career track is one thing. Trying to live off your savings, pension, SS is treacherous

No intention of retiring, just going to take a few months off a year in the Winter, probably Jan-February to start. Ramp it up to 4 months off in 4 or 5 years. We owe nothing, nada, zip. So it’s a pretty easy transition to living on less.

Hers a few more pics of me, myself and I, from a couple sessions at a local b.c. stash the last few weeks.

Stay home, they say. So I have been. Same old back yard, same old Secret Hill. Today I mixed it up a bit by giving the Altai Hoks another go. Conditions were ideal for Hokking around, the cold snow gave the things some glide and fun turns were had. Note to TD: skin track now set on Secret Hill.

I was skiing so fast, I lost my hat:
