Storm Skiing Podcast with Vail Inc. Eastern Head Honcho

Actually, I'm a dudette. :)
If you check out SkiSoutheast.com , you'll see that there is plenty of interest in skiing/boarding in the region.
Found one of my old favorite tee shirts a week ago. Still fits.

Ski Mississippi
With print of a skier in the woods.

Bought it in the Ole Miss bookstore.

i say stupid shit as pointed out earlier in this thread. thanks for info. I hope to check out Asheville/Greenville on my way to Myrtle this spring. Plan on doing some hikes and taking a slow drive down blue ridge parkway. I am also curious what the lakes are like in those parts.

“If I go out West it pays for itself”, is what I hear most from the people I know who buy mega passes. Even if they don’t make it out there or use it enough to warrant the purchase, it doesn’t matter because they are “getting a deal”. I’ve noticed people often make these purchases based on the type of skiing they want to do, not necessarily what they actually do. This is why you also see them on icy groomers with fat skis when there hasn’t been powder for days. Also it’s convenient. Most of the destinations are recognizable, close to airports, have slopeside lodging, restaurants and nightlife. The guess work and fear is taken away. They will stand on line for the tram in Big Sky and pack into crowded bars in the mountain village instead of figuring out they can ski at Lost Trail and stay at Jackson Hot Springs and have the place all to themselves, for a fraction of the price. It’s too scary.

Sorry for the long post. A couple things about this thread;

I think I’m picking up what Brown is putting down. I like the optimism. In that spirit I’ve decided from now on when I say F Vail, the F stands for forget and I’m changing Vail sucks to Vail stinks.

Tim Baker never skied the East.

I like RA’s honesty.

James has me fired up to go back to the Alps.

Never heard of Beech Mountain. Never mind that their base is higher than the top of the summit quad at Whiteface. That’s crazy.

I want to party with Marz and the rednecks in the parking lot. Anywhere.

I really want to tell my best chicken I ever had story and I hope Jason gives up some of his roasting wisdom in a recipe thread.

It’s fun hanging out with you all.

We all say stupid shit.

That’s all I can think of right now…
Oh! Almost forgot, F Vail.

No secret, it's just that these trips are often fluid and can go exactly as planned or change completely at the drop of a hat.

Originally, I booked a late January flight to Toulouse to try (for a second time) to do a nine-day road trip through the western Pyrenees; however, British Airways cancelled its afternoon connecting flight so it became too much trouble or too many FF miles. The Pyrenees will have to wait for retirement, when I'm living the entire winter over there.

I'm now flying nonstop to Milan twice as a gateway to these two regions within two hours (each ski area on the itinerary is marked/zoom in a bit to see most of the lifts and trails on the maps):
Would definitely like more info about this. Alps is on my bucket list. My wife is more or less an advanced beginner but can handle greens and blues. We like to explore mountains rather than get in laps. Hopefully exploring greens and blues is an option in the Alps.

I didn't start skiing until my nearly mid 40's and I'm now looking 60 in the eyes. I covet the trips I've taken out west and every day I spend on any slope with my wife, children or friends, but the Alps is one I'd still like to get.

Back to Vail comments from others in this thread--- I despise large corporate takeovers of skiing and the Disneyification of nature. Though I will admit to having some incredible days at Breck and in the lift served back bowls of Vail. I don't buy an Ikon or Epic pass because I don't want to be tied down to any specific mountains or locations and don't care if I pay more for that flexibility.

I promised my old neighbor I would ski vail. He died a few years ago at 90 something. He was one of the original ski school instructors at gore. He loved to talk about the back bowls and made me promise to go there. just hope to catch it on a weekday with minimal shit show.

Tim Baker is from Texas. That’s cool, I used to ski in jeans too.

Broski hasn't skied at West Point yet. I’m looking forward to this year’s trip report.

Belleayre is too boring. I love when people say that.

Jason must not work at Walmart because his roast chicken number would be more like 10,000.

Someone needs to apologize to Benny for waiting at Huntah for a ski day that never happened.

I knew there were ski areas down South but I didn’t know there are so many. My Muffin wants to go there so now I have to drive south to go skiing. That’s weird.

Marz probably needs to bring her car in for an oil change.

Planning a trip to the Alps is hard when the websites are in another language.

Lots of things going through RA’s mind when he’s breaking those trails. Curious to hear more about it.

Still waiting for the salsa and steak taco recipes.

Harvey crushes it at Platty. Although I’m pretty sure we all knew that already.

I hope it’s a bluebird powder day when Sig makes it to the back bowls. I have a feeling the old-timer will help out with that.
