Skiing's Future

What exactly is misinformation?
There's more to "green energy" (those two words don't go together at all) than cars. Subaru is an industry leader when it comes to "being green". They have a EV launch coming in 2022 as a 2023 model year. Yes, it's shared with Toyota but Toyota and Subie have been sharing platforms for years. Anyway, here ya go.

I'm sure we are all aware this thread is on the edge, could be locked anytime. I'd like to keep it open but won't hesitate. Phrases deriding left or right (aka rabid liberal etc) aren't helpful.

Beyond that, Sbob's point rings true. Contradictions abound.

The original NYT article posted by RA ends with the idea that the efforts of the ski areas to be more "green" are a drop in the bucket compared the the driving and flying done by skiers to ski. I think about it all the time, and acknowledge that I am a not in alignment. I make efforts to drive efficiently and carpool, but that really isn't much at all. And last year I carpooled far less than I did the previous year, because of covid. The only time I carpooled was my May trip to Killy, after I was vaxxed.

Still it's not the first time, and won't be the last, that people choose between their own self interest and the interests of all. It happens all the time. When doing the right thing for all is a choice (vs a law) it's not an easy choice to make. You only live once, and we all want to enjoy life.

On a more humorous note, a retired forum member emailed me and pressured me to delete the misinformation in this thread.
What’s the misinformation?

We put in a super efficient HVAC two years ago. Talk about taking one for the team. I'll leave that story for another time. Suffice it to say repairs, on a brand new unit, have far exceeded energy cost, but not the systems fault, it was the installer. We will never recover the investment.

I digress. The last guy who was on helping us told me that with the heat pump, it's best to leave i set at a single temp, vs setting a schedule. He said up and down on our system is less efficient then leaving it at 70 or whatever.

Anybody know if this is true?
“If “ Your system has enough capacity to recover in the heat pump mode you can set it back . The newer thermostats will know not to go into back up heat .

Actually heat pump efficiency is rated after 15 minutes of running time which rarely occurs. Usually on-off a few minutes unless it’s really cold.So if your heat pump is running a long time to recover temperature it’s actually operating more efficiently than under normal operations.

Newer houses are insulated very well and using the night setbacks aren’t going to save as much as an older house that’s very drafty.

What’s the misinformation?
Someones feelings got hurt.

I’m sorry…..

I actually think the internet already has a solution to miss information. We have a like and dislike buttons . Re label them “ I believe this “ and “I don’t believe this “ Remember Who wants to be a millionaire show ? The audience poll was right 100% of the time!

This is a hilarious and awesome idea.

IDK... some years ago, Bill McKibben suggested that switching from coal fired power plants to renewable resources would have a way bigger impact than everyone carpooling to Kmart.

raisingarizona’s soup don't burn as he’s great at stirrin things up includin his thread startin.
Carry on RA

Here’s a couple miss infos for ya.
To be fair, I agree with some of the other stuff A-Roc said though.
The fact is virtually ALL living things are responsible for generating greenhouse gases--- carbon and methane.
Plants don’t release greenhouse gasses. Plants make oxygen from carbon dioxide.
Remember virtually all of our energy exists because of the sun--- .
Ya forgot geothermal. Ya know the whole volcanic activity thingy. ?
It’s hot as hell down there. And ain’t gonna cool off for a long time. Look it up sometime if ya want.
If folks are still here when the next ice age starts folks will be tryin like hell to figure out how to heat their surface back up.
