Skiing's Future

Not sure why, every so often the NYT let's me read an article without paying, including this time.

At the end the article says basically that the biggest impact from skiing, by far, is the driving and flying we do to get there.

Aren't most fires set off by humans?
Harvey, Try this site https://www.realitychex.com/ it generally allows access to many NYT articles without having to pay.

Not that we are innocent as skiers, but what do those things even get in mpg?
Wild ass guess: Your average hardcore snowmobiler uses way less gas than our average hardcore skier.

I don't even want to ask how much they use in a season, because then I will have to figure my usage out too.

One other thing to consider, snowmobilers don't rely on energy intensive snowmaking. They likely ride LESS when winters are warmer. Skiers and ski areas rely more on snowmaking when the winter sucks.

This is true
Currently our theme is, "think how much money we're saving". LOL
It will be here

TLDR:
* 14,589 solar panel array
* Hybrid Snow Cats
* High efficiency guns
* EV charging

At least the ski industry is moving in the right direction. 5 hours of snow-mobiling at 10 mpg must produce more C02 then 5 hours skiing and a few hours of driving, even with a car that gets 30 mpg

Who cares
Pretty much all of us who are watching winter melt away.

Maybe it's not fair to pick specifically on snowmobiling, but everyone can't just keep on with the mentality of I'm just one person "doing my thing". There are multiple couples who I am good friends with who just travel all the time. They post shit to IG constantly like, "county #42 ❤️ ✈️", and all I can think of is the sheer amount of Co2 they emit.

Nothing is going to change until there is a carbon tax and people start actually paying for what they do. Ski resorts will be incentivized to be powered by 100% renewables and as skiers we will be incentivized to drive a very efficient car. Maybe they can make EV snowmobiles too.
