Ski Travel 2020/2021 Season

All of that sounds silly.
While I agree that VT is going way over the top when it comes to travel restrictions, the fear stems partially from the limited medical facilities. A friend's husband is an ER doc in VT . . . one of 25 for the entire state. With the memory of the chaos and tragedy that unfolded in NYC in Feb-Mar still pretty fresh, all of NY/NJ and New England is much more skittish about travel or eating indoors or whatever else may increase someone's risk of being infected with COVID-19. Vermonters know that people drive from Boston, NYC, NJ, and other places that have Percent Positive rates much higher than VT.

NM is the one state in the west that has travel restrictions for out-of-state visitors. Certainly seems to have made a difference in the level of community transmission compared to neighboring states. I'm watching to see how things change in the next couple months. Have to make a decision about flying to NM by early Dec given the cancellation policy for the slopeside lodging I have booked at Taos Ski Valley for early Feb.

I'll post some state comparisons from CovidActNow in the New Normal thread.

Won't happen for 2020-21 but could be in some airports for 2021-22. Perhaps a reason to defer a multi-resort pass that requires flying?

Dogs are also in training in Germany and Australia. A variation of training dogs to detect certain types of cancer or malaria. There is a video in the article that shows the clicker training. There are five containers and a researcher keeps mixing them up. Clearly no hesitation on the part of the dog finding the COVID-19 sample.

The Nose Needed for This Coronavirus Test Isn’t Yours. It’s a Dog’s.
Several animals now working on a trial at Helsinki’s airport have been trained to detect the virus by scent on arriving passengers.

I won't be flying anywhere to ski. I've done one overnight trip since the $81t hit the fan. We are, unfortunately, seeing an uptick of covid cases in NJ. Kids going back to school, people eating out....

Only one trip planned thus far, and I may need to cancel.

Personally I'm not too concerned about travel risk (planes or hotels); however my upcoming season will be limited to local trips due to my kids hybrid school situation.

In a normal season, I usually take a few vacation weekdays to go north or out west since the kids are busy with school/activities (and my mother-in-law stays over to help out while I'm away). Not this season.

I reserved a spot on a drive up trip to Sunday River in February. ?that it won’t be cancelled.

Montreal is locked down after a successful summer, so you wonder if that's the start of the dreaded cold weather second wave that a lot have predicted. It was pretty cold up there last week, and this weekend should see brisk temps at night. No more outside dining.

Southwest and JetBlue may come out of the pandemic faster than the traditional airlines.

" . . .
Airlines have been hard hit by the pandemic, with mass furloughs, layoffs and slashed routes. Each carrier is reacting differently.

Delta, for example, last month suspended flights from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City into the airports serving Aspen, Steamboat, Vail and Telluride. But then Southwest, Allegiant, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue stepped up, offering service to regional airports for the first time. And heavyweights like American and United cranked up flights into regional airports as well.

Lots of tough decisions for peeps

At 77 and having been thru Open heart surgery and a few other issues and with Covid still raging , I'm officially done with lift assisted , going strictly Xc from here on till i age out .

Last week gave my son my brand new pair of Atomic Blackeye Ti's still in the wrapper , They were my motivation to go

Also sold my other 2 other prs of Atomics and The Queens too. Also sold our boots, helmets and some other stuff. So we're going full circle back to Xc where we started well over 50 years ago .

It is ,what it is

Yahoo! Finance did an interview with Alterra CEO Rusty Gregory on Oct. 9. One interviewer actually skis.

Why is everything in video these days? Don't they still teach reading in school? At least print a transcript.

Nothing earth shattering or unexpected in there. Gondolas and Trams will be difficult...both in terms of keeping them sanitary and additional liftlines that will be created. I won't be riding in them this year.
