Kudos to any ski area/resort choosing to put the safety of their staff and guests above profits this weekend.
I have nothing but sympathy and respect for the front end staff, managers, and owners that need to explain to the excessively demanding public that having staff and guests in an alpine environment at -10*F and below with a 30+ MPH northwest wind is a really bad idea.
Maybe more southern areas don't have exposure values as low as the north country. But it is dang brutal right now in the north country. I just took my dog out for a few minutes and it is some of the lowest "real feel" that I have experienced. Mount Washington may approach, tie, or hit an all time low tonight.
Here's the deal: if the weather is so bad that a lift evac could result in severe hypothermia for guests waiting to be rescued and for the rescuers, it is probably a good idea to shut things down. This is a pretty usual situation, an entire region shutting down most lifts for extreme cold doesn't happen every season.
