Ski Resorts Panicking About Cold Weather

Just got word from someone at Killington that the Gondola is currently down. When a cabin was re-entering the bottom station, it got "stuck" and "fell off track" and just stopped at the station. From what I can gather and from photos, as it detached from the rope, it slipped off the "tire tracks". I don't really know, but it's down and from pictures I got, it looks like they have come-a-longs on the cabin trying to get it back into the right position.

I got a video too(i'll try to upload if I can) and it shows them using the come-a-longs to lift it

Grip out of the rail. Usually caused by wind hitting the cabin at the wrong time and misaligning the rollers with the rails.

It's on the maintenance line now, and I'm told the gondola is running again. Not sure about loading though

Another important note about this weather, was that the forecast did NOT call for warming during the day, but rather the opposite. The temperature and wind was supposed to get worse as the day progressed. No doubt this was part of the decision making as well.

When I woke up in Lake Placid at around 5 am this morning, it was about -12 at my house. By 9 am, it was down to -15. It's currently (3 pm) around -18, and the wind has been picking up. It's not typical that the temps go down during the daytime hours.

This morning I went for a run in 20 ABOVE zero weather with stiff wind. Running, i.e. generating body heat. It was wicked cold.

Sno, is there somewhere where you could volunteer as a liftie tomorrow?

Skied from 8:45-11:45 today at Gore. Temps got progressively colder with winds picking up throughout the day. ( -11 at the Saddle at around 10:15). My hands and feet hurt by the time I was on my last run. Most people were in the bar or had left entirely by noon.

Edit: Snow was really good, but firmed up as it got colder and windier.
