Purchasing Land

I lived on a septic system for many years. Best to use single ply toilet paper (more digestable), put in Sep-tabs from time to time (or yeast), have it pumped out every 4 years (for 2 people, every 2 years for 4 people), use aerators in your taps but DON'T use anti-bacterial soap.
Less worry if you live in sandy soil. Hopefully you have 2 tanks and know where the lid is.
Also, don't put patio stones or anything impermeable over top. Treat the system well and it should last you 30+ years.
We use single ply and the guy pumps it every 2 years. We have extremely rocky soil. I used an auger and a post hole digger to plant bulbs when we first moved in. They did not thrive.

We need to (or should) clean the filter every six weeks, so it's a cinch there's not even dirt over the lid. The field is sort of a long way (300 feet) from the tanks due to trouble finding a spot that would pass the perc test.
 
... many of you seemingly enthusiastic to talk about things like cabins, land, recreation properties and the like, ... I've been saying for sometime now that when the opportunity presents itself I will buy a large parcel of land, preferably in Vermont or New York. The purpose of the land would be 80% for recreation & leisure and 20% utility, food and timber harvest, maybe a business, and certainly a place to hermit up if I ever make it to dropping out of society.
So let's have at it, I want to hear thoughts, opinions, personal experience, why it's a great idea, why it's a terrible idea, pretty much anything any of you have to share.
It’s in The Upstate next to Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge.
Came down in price $16M to $49M. Has nice lodges, farms, tree stands, lakes, ponds and streams.
