Powder days are overrated.

Are there pics?

Please put them here: ????
So it's kind of unfortunate ...

My day at Greek Peak was part of a "Central NY (and PA) Ski Tour" that I did back in 2014. It was originally supposed to be a 5 day tour, but I ended up starting a day later than I had originally planned, and only did 4 days. These were all ski areas I had never been to, except Plattekill.

Day 1 - Camelback and Elk Mountain.
Day 2 - Greek Peak
Day 3 - Labrador, Song & Toggenburg all in the same day! I spent about 2-3 hours at each area.
Day 4 - Plattekill

The original plan had day 4 covering McCauley, Snow Ridge & Woods Valley, with day 5 at Plattekill.

I have pictures from days 1, 3 & 4, but there was a problem with my camera on day 2 at Greek Peak, and I didn't know it until that night, so no pictures from that day! :(

Isn't that in the old forum somewhere?

His response ... "You know what Alta stands for, don't you? Another Long Traverse Ahead!!!" ... I had never heard that one!
Haha!

When I was at Berkshire East during early season midweek, I shared a few chairlift rides with a man in his 50s who had been skiing all his life. We started talking about skiing. out west because his adult son was starting to consider the idea. I mentioned that Alta was my favorite when I fly out west. He paused and said "must be small, I've never heard of it."

The day before the Road to Provo opening, we were at Alta, and we had met up with a local that the group I was with knows. Visibility was awful, and he kept taking us on the High Traverse to all of the runs in the West Rustler area. A couple of times on the traverse, it was like complete white-out ... I was definitely uncomfortable. At one point, we had gotten back to the top of the Collins Lift and someone (else) in the group asked him if we could do a run without having to traverse.
The first time my ski buddy from Cleveland skied at Alta, we did the afternoon All-Mountain Workshop. That's all off-piste and groups are split by ability with a ski off near Watson's. There was no visibility off the High-T. I wasn't good enough to be in the middle group with my ski buddy. He had a good time but had no idea what terrain they skied that afternoon.

I've only done the Cirque traverse at Snowbird once. I'll stick with Alta traverses.

In April 2019, I was using the singles line and rode up Collins with a patroller. On the way he heard on his radio that the Ballroom rope drop was imminent. He let me and the other two guys on the chair know. By that spring, I had enough experience in deep powder to be willing to give it a shot even though I wasn't with a ski buddy. I also knew Ballroom well enough to stop at a drop in point that would be a good fit for my comfort level. It was a bit unusual that the groomer immediately below wasn't groomed at all. The end result was that it was the first time I skied Alta powder full-speed, non-stop, and had an absolute ball!

Can you see the two kids below (in front of the trees)? They are local kids who dropped in as their father took video. They are at the edge of the Main Street.

Didn't stop until I got to the high point on Main Street

Yup. The thing Face was wondering what it was is Otisco Lake.

Up to a foot of fresh snow should be falling on top of the 2 big state run ski mountains in NY by Wednesday morning.
Seems as if there’d be some interest to open up one or both for fans of fresh snow before waiting till Saturday to re-open.
If a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?
If a foot of snow falls on the "still open" trails and nobody skis it, does it count in the ski season snow totals?
Why let good fresh snow go to “waste”?
