Powder days are overrated.

Chasing powder doesn't necessarily mean having to deal with a destination resort like Snowbird that is near lots of powder hound locals.

I picked Wolf Creek for an early season trip in December. Worked out nicely. Sorry, no pictures from the day we spent in the trees playing in 14+ inches of fresh snow. Here's what we found the day after. Was it worth driving out to Colorado . . . you bet it was!

Wolf has had over 3 feet in the last few days and expects another 2-3 feet before this week's storm cycle is over.

Listen, RA is nuts ;) (more accurately….a little spoiled? jaded?). Those who agree that powder days are overrated? Sorry, same of them! Were it not for this last sentence, Face, I’d say the same of you!
Hmmm ... I didn't think I was complaining ... I was just describing the scene!!! I certainly wouldn't agree with the notion that powder days are overrated! I'm sure that's because as an Eastern skier, it's not like we get them all the time!

Actually, for me, the worst part of it was the traverse itself, not so much all the people. I have the same problem when I ski The Slides at Whiteface, particularly when you first drop in at Slide 1 and move across towards 2 and 3 ... I think it's some kind of vertigo thing ... I get a sense of "falling off the edge" ... It freaks me out for some reason. It's weird because I'm not generally bothered by heights.

The day before the Road to Provo opening, we were at Alta, and we had met up with a local that the group I was with knows. Visibility was awful, and he kept taking us on the High Traverse to all of the runs in the West Rustler area. A couple of times on the traverse, it was like complete white-out ... I was definitely uncomfortable. At one point, we had gotten back to the top of the Collins Lift and someone (else) in the group asked him if we could do a run without having to traverse.

His response ... "You know what Alta stands for, don't you? Another Long Traverse Ahead!!!" ... I had never heard that one!

Counterpoint: Powder days are underrated. ?

When I think back over skiing the last 20 years, the top five best days I can think about over that time... they were all powder. Maybe a corn day in my top ten.

All that fond reliving diminishes the original "cost" ... like that insane early am drive to McCauley. Every time I think about certain days... it's worth whatever I "paid."

Yes ... That was definitely a fun day ... My one and only time at Greek ... I sure picked a winner!
Are there pics?

Please put them here: ????

We were too busy skiing ;)
I was supposed to be at work but went in late so I could take a few runs with Face and Pro. I think I only got in maybe 4? Dunno, but it was good snow and good fun.

1998, Jackson Hole side country when it was still illegal to ski beyond the Village ropes and you could ski deep, untracked lines all day long. This was my first season in Jackson and the last year with closed boundaries. It probably snowed well over 100 inches that January and we had walk on trams all month long. A few friends and I basically spent that January skiing top to bottoms with heli skiing conditions nearly every day that month. Definitely not overrated.
