For the cottonwood canyon resorts, parking can be defined as free or paid, and reserved or unreserved.

As of now, Brighton and Alta are reserved, while Solitude and Snowbird are still unreserved. Solitude and Alta have only paid parking. Snowbird has some free parking, and we don't know what the story is at Brighton.

I wonder if this results in Brighton dropping Ikon reservations. It just seems redundant if they have parking reservations. Parking is the limiting factor for Brighton, and the mountain itself can easily accommodate more people.

A lot of this would be solved if UTA had decent bus service, but they slashed it in half and the buses are always full to the point where people get left behind at stops.

I'll be surprised if Boyne Resorts drops Ikon reservations for Brighton. They are requiring them for Big Sky too, which only has lift line issues when the upper mountain lifts are on hold due to high winds or low visibility. Was there for a week in early March, which was a college spring break week. Easy enough to provide a larger number so that it's rare that someone can't get an Ikon reservation.

Given that there is a public bus option for BCC, better to be prepared than to hear complaints by local season pass holders that there are too many Ikon folks around. The howling about crowds at Snowbasin has been very loud this season. Easy enough for a traveler with a fixed schedule to make an Ikon reservation for a weekend well in advance, and then cancel if the trip doesn't happen or they decide to head to a different Ikon resort instead of Brighton. Also may make them think twice about adding to a Saturday lift line. Although with the new 6-pack D-line that was recently announced for Crest, getting people out of the main base will be quicker.

Solitude has unreserved paid parking every day, doesn't it? Possible to park for free in a few places along the road.

Alta has pre-paid reserved parking Fri, Sat, Sun, and a few holidays that covers the parking lots and the spaces in the town of Alta. People with a car who are staying in a lodge must provide their license info when parking overnight in the designated areas. A couple of the lodges have some garage parking.

It's possible to pay for Snowbird parking in advance or at a paid parking lot, assuming there is still room.

In general, can park for free in the afternoons. That makes a difference for families with little ones who drive up for an hour or two on weekends at Alta using Sunnyside only.

Parking lot at Plattekill on Wednesday. The lone red vehicle is their plow truck.
