Platty Next Week?

The reservation system is meant to enable you folks and the mountain to operate under COVID conditions. Canceling and rebooking because you don't like the conditions does a couple of things. First the resort is out the money for that day, second someone who wanted to ski who could not get a ticket is out as well. Emergencies come up, not liking the conditions is not one of them. Just cause you can does not mean you should. For what it is worth, I bet conditions are pretty good.
I don't agree with your interpretation of their policy. Based on my reading of it (https://plattekill.com/tickets/), they provide one change as a courtesy and then there's another section that says if you have Covid symptoms, they will work with you to reschedule dates or give a voucher. I believe those are two separate policies. I think the first policy is designed to give some flexibility in a new world where tickets have to be purchased in advance instead of the day of skiing. So, whatever comes up (work issues, bad weather, etc.), you get to change your ticket.

That is one interpretation of their exchange policy, but it doesn't require a reason. Maybe they were just trying to get people to reserve who had concerns about reserving in advance without knowing the conditions. No way to tell from their printed policy.

I'd rather not drive over 3 hours one way to ski what could potentially be an ice skating rink tomorrow. 46 today, 11 tonight.

I'm just going to transfer to some random Sunday and hope for the best. If the conditions look poor that day, it's a donation to the mountain.

Yup. Rules is rules in this game of life, so, if they give me a reschedule option once, I'm not skiing in the rain.

Agree to disagree here.

What does “allow them to operate under COVID conditions” mean anyway? You want people to produce a doctor’s note/positive COVID test in order to be able to rebook? They could have made part of their policy, if they felt they needed to.

Perhaps “operating under COVID conditions”, which requires people to commit in advance like never before, means offering limited flexibility should circumstances (beyond those which you think are valid) change?

Over the course of the season is Platty going to lose some revenue as a result of rebookings? Sure, but it’s a cost of doing business associated with both customer service and generating advanced sales.

Stick that self serving sob justification in yo’ pipe and smoke it! :p;)

That stick it in your pipe bit was tongue-in-cheek. I appreciate your interpretation, even if I disagree with it.

My worry is that a lot of hills will stick with a reservation system in the future.

Reservation systems were never necessary in the past and, while they do aid operations in the current COVID environment, they are not particularly customer friendly. If the need to limit numbers goes away why would they keep using a reservation system? I don’t see the need or upside, but who knows....

You know what Covid conditions mean, its well documented. Why you playin dumb? Self serving sob justification?
So a place can only sell 10 tickets, 4 back out at the last minute, you do the math.
I can tell by the backerouters response I hit a nerve. You should have all felt like heals emailing taking advantage of something you committed to. That's just me. I'm wrong all the time
