The apocryphal story is that skeleton is so called because it's f'n dangerous. Other people suggest that it's a corruption of kjelke, the Norwegian word for sled. It was an Olympic event in 1928 and 1948, then didn't make another Olympic appearance for dang near 50 years.

IDK how many people ride.

EDIT: You, yes, you! can take a skeleton or bobsled ride on the Ho's sliding track. ORDA stopped offering luge rides because too many people got beat up.

I went back to Facebook a few weeks ago to rant about Gore's poor snowmaking. I'm sort of proud that at least one of my posts was deleted, and my :"Gore Top Fan" status was revoked. But it all seemed to work. ORDA made dramatic improvements at Gore. The same thing happed at Whiteface last year, and earlier at Belleayre.
Now everyone on Facebook is on Belleayre for snowmaking and other problems.
It's like we trained ourselves to troll ORDA whenever something we don't like happens. It's like a rapid response on-line attack team.
I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I have done Vail on other places, but Vail only interests me as a synecdoche (look it up) for the market concentration and financialization of the entire economy. That's too big an issue to have any effect on from a regional ski forum, it is intrinsically political and the mental energy to get torqued up to complain all the time is too much.
OTOH ORDA apparently responds to on-line hate posting, and the fact that some of my posts have been deleted encourages me that I had some small positive effect on the situation. You're welcome.
