ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

So Gore is done with the university games, so maybe time to catch up on trail expansion? Maybe open the rest of the summit trails, or Sleeping Bear, or the Ski Bowl?

Nope.

Making even more snow on Wild Air for yet another park event. You've gotta be kidding me. Sure they upgraded their snowmaking. It's just that the majority of their customers won't get to ski most of it.
how about we organize a ski-in protest on wild air? the WUG had me frustrated but this is just a slap in the face

Yeah, slap in the face is right. Wild Air, Pot Luck, and Lower Sleighride will now remain closed to the public until February 10th. And starting this weekend, expect Echo to be closed for racing all weekend every weekend for a while. This is not to even mention all the other trails that would've been open had it not been for these events taking up all the snowmaking capacity.

Here's what they haven't made any snow on yet, going from top to bottom.

Chatiemac
Rumor
Upper Steilhang
Lower Steilhang
Pete Gay
Sleeping Bear
Pipeline (portion not shared with Backwoods)
1A
Twin Fawns
Peaceful Valley
Oak Ridge
46er

Yikes that's a lot. Even with perfect weather, there will be many that don't make the cut, since Gore stops all snowmaking the first weekend of President's Week. And forget about adding depth to certain trails for spring.

:Looks like Belle wins by not getting involved in the big competitions. Doesn’t Belle have some racing programs?
It also has a lot less acreage to cover.

The Gore revenue is not indexed and it is subject to inflation. Skier visits give the accurate accounting of what is happening at Gore.
As part of Open Government NYS thru ORDA released skier visit data this month beginning with 2013.
"This data set contains the daily admissions figures for all locations operated by ORDA. The data is organized by Fiscal Year, Resort, Visitor Type and Activity."
To make the most sense of it ya could and should sort it.
Pretty graphs would be a bonus as well as trend lines, the whole 9 yards.

They may not have made a ton, but I'm pretty sure they've blown on Upper Steilhang and Sleeping Bear. Skied thru the guns on both within last couple weeks.

Twin Fawns? That's hardly ever been a snowmaking priority.

To me the ones of note are no snowmaking on Chatty or Rumor (yet). But how soon we forget the overall lack of cooperating snowmaking weather. All would've been right with the world if they blew like crazy mid-December only to have it evaporate 1st week of January? Revisionist history.

You can either whine about it or enjoy what you do have. Your choice. Me? Ripping with the boys, sharing some laughs, downing some beers, and making some memories. That's what I'm focused on.

There’s FIS sanctioned races already at both Gore and Whiteface, just not ones with the big dogs (World Cup) yet.

There’s FIS women's GS and slalom races at Whiteface in mid December.

Gore has FIS freestyle and “freeski/ski-cross” events planned too for February.

Tain’t no Skimo though...
yet.
What is The Olympic RDA waiting for in regards to Skimo Racing/Training?
It’s gonna be an Olympic thingy

Now they're reporting Sleeping Bear as groomed, which means they either groomed it or have enough natural snow. The snow report also shows Rumor and Chatiemac under snowmaking. If I also take your word for it that Upper Steilhang has had snow made on it, then that narrows the list to:

Lower Steilhang
Pete Gay
Fairview
1A
Twin Fawns
Peaceful Valley
Oak Ridge
46er

The following trails have pipe but I've never seen snow made there:

Powder Pass
North Star
Little Dipper

These may or may not get skipped in any given year:

Lower Steilhang (2021-2022 was the first time in a while that snow was made there)
Pete Gay
Fairview
Upper Sleighride (this year was the first time in a while that snow was made there)
1A
Twin Fawns (2020-2021 was the first time in a while that snow was made there)
46er

The fact that there are so many trails that have pipe but don't see consistent snowmaking shows that despite all their improvements, the system is still underpowered.

Da NY Gov’s new budget proposals came out.
ORDA’s in for more than they asked for.
How about a winter sports bone for somewhere other than the Hudson River watershed?
Ya could buy 2 Togg's for the price of the shiny new dang curling place and still have a couple million$ in yer pocket.
