WTF! This is November 20, and Gore was open before that the last two years. It's like November catches ORDA by surprise every year.

Think that it is on purpose this year they probably wait to Dec and have more than few ways from top to bottom before they open

Years ago I would have been saying the same. But, this year is different on so may aspects beginning with the obvious:
Covid
Installing 2 new lifts in a normal off season is difficult in itself

I think I would have done the opposite. There was so much lift construction cancelled this year that it should have been easy to make contractors meet their deadlines. I would have set those deadliness earlier because of the possibility that a November virus surge could should down everything, but that's just me. OTOH maybe there were unusual early season travel or supply delays, but construction delays are common enough that you should never schedule for a just in time opening. I would give them the benefit of the doubt on this one except for their unbroken long record of having an unfinished projects when the season starts going back at least to the failure to build snowmaking in time for the opening of the Burnt Ridge Quad.

I think most skiers, except for the diehard might blow off the entire season. Especially for families the no lodge is just to big of a hurdle.
Agreed. I bring my own food and usually boot up in the parking lot, so not having a lodge available isn't a huge issue for me.

I still think that capacities will be reached.

Hoping to start at Hunter Friday. Waiting to hear reports about what conditions and lines are like. I guess you guys aren't Hunter fans here as I see no conditions thread for them.

Welcome rfreeman.

Our forum is new and we weren't able to bring over our old threads with some kind of auto import. We'll definitely have a Hunter Conditions thread. I'll start one later today, or you could if you have news.

For our conditions thread we also allow "news" in those threads.

ETA: done

I have a friend who lives in Philly who is thinking seriously of skiing Hunter in the next few days. She was supposed to go to Lake Placid for a Thanksgiving trip, but since Whiteface isn't opening until Dec. 4 that's been cancelled. I'll post her impressions if she skis Hunter tomorrow.
