Old Forum Migration and Greatest Hits

The search function is gone. Best bet is to use a special google search if you want to find something.

Google:

site:nyskiblog.com snoloco skier density

First result:

The "site:nyskiblog.com" part tells google "only show me results from THAT site.

You could use site:forum.nyskiblog.com and limit results even more.

Hey. Just saw this in the archives. Did it get imported?
I don't think so. It not easy to do now.

ETA: I lied, it's not hard to do. Any idea of the date?

Glad to see that you managed to save your archives. Sadly, No one was able to do that with EpicSki in 2017.

Yes, search functions inside websites are often inferior to a special google search.

The "Uphill Capacity vs. Trail Acreage" thread was interesting. I've collected some of those stats myself. But I've not compared them directly. I've rather compared both to an estimate of skier visits.

Uphill Capacity / Skier Visits is a measure of lift line minimization.

Trail Acreage (which I've sometimes modified for selected areas based upon personal observation) / Skier visits is a measure of low skier density.

"Uphill Capacity vs. Trail Acreage" does not tell you how crowded a ski area is without context of visitation numbers. What it tells you is what it will be like WHEN it's busy. A high ratio favoring uphill capacity means the likely result will be high skier density. A low ratio favoring Trail Acreage means the likely result will be long lift lines.

In the context of this forum perhaps it is presumed that most weekends with good conditions will be operating at or close to capacity. So "Uphill Capacity vs. Trail Acreage" will tell you whether you are more likely to have high skier density or long lift lines and thus you have guidance depending on which scenario annoys you more.

I wouldn't call this an archive. At the last minute before the site went down, we took an HTML copy of the content. All functionality was lost. There is no search function at all. There are no dates on anything.

Still your point is legit, it is often better to use google to search sites.

Remember to add site:nyskiblog.com to your search.
