Old Forum Migration and Greatest Hits

For those of you that have many threads you want to save, I recommend the HTTrack program. Make a list of the URL's you want to save, load them into the program, let it run for a few hours and they will all be saved your home computer in one fell swoop.

Step by step instructions: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12447

Now is not the time to manual copy/edit reports one at a time if you have a lot of them. With HTTrack you cast a wide net, get as much content as possible safe on your own computer. Then you can upload to the new Forum on your own schedule.

I was motivated to get this process going after the sudden shutdown of the EpicSki Forum in May 2017. My highlight TR's are now uploaded to my own website: http://www.bestsnow.net/triprpts.htm

I have hundreds more reports still on First Tracks Online. But at the end of every season, I download that season's TR's via HTTrack to my home computer.

Well, of course I would like to see the TFTH preserved for all eternity. If there is anything I can do to assist, let me know. If there is a Nabble death date, let me know so I can figure out a way to preserve some of the best reports offline.

@Sick Bird Rider I would still like to figure out something creative to save some of this.

Any way to choose some greatest hits, and combine into one archive thread that spans the years?

As I saw other TRs being imported, I realized that the problem (challenge) with the annual TFTH threads is that they are not "stand-alone" TRs but rather an ongoing diary of activity with entertaining commentary from a variety of people. They don't lend themselves to being imported without the comments and ongoing entries, which seems problematic. So I have resigned myself to losing these and will be happy to start again this coming winter. With everything else that is going in our world, I really don't have the time or energy right now to comb through them and make up a greatest hits, nor would I expect anyone else to do so. I still have all the pictures, perhaps later I could do a retrospective as a new post. Having said that, there were a couple of independent TRs that could be imported as reference material:

The Dog Day Ski Adventure
The Tour de Valley
SBR Has an Epiphany
A Dream Comes True, Sort Of.

These four do sum up our shtick pretty well. @Harvey, if you or an assistant could find the time to import those, I would be eternally grateful.

I just banged out two and tagged you. They are sweet.

Any piece we're bringing over that has old links has to either remove them or link to the content in the new forum. I'm not spending time reposting broken links.

When I'm done, look through the four I brought over. I think there are one or two links in the first two. I will do the others tonight.

Wish TD was here so I could tag him. He doesn't have to post I just want to tag him. Joining takes 2 minutes, or less. You could nudge him? :)

Also there are these things called categories. Like we could have one link for all Hinterlandia posts. I think. Not positive still checking it out.

Beautiful eve I'm going for a ride.

SBR All four are up. Fyi any link that goes to forum.nyskiblog.com will be dead soon.

So bigger picture, I have to admit, I'm not exactly sure where I am with all the TRs.

• All of James TRs are over.
• All of mine are now over too.
• Plus I've done 50 or 100 TRs by other members including

@chrsdipietro94@
@ADKmike
@JTG
@MC2
@Sick Bird Rider
@Robert
@x10003q
@MiSkier
@Brownski
@junior

...maybe a few others.

• Plus anything you all have done without me knowing.
• And I know Brownski has done a bunch.

I'm sure that many of those posted above are done. Help me find the crucial ones I'm missing by posting directly below this post.

Tagged members, click on your nabble avatar and filter by TOPICS you started in the TRIP REPORTS forum. Or anywhere. Woodstove, Summer, whatev.

Seriously no pressure. We got so much good stuff over that if the whole thing blew up today, I'd be fine with it. If there is more good stuff to bang out, I got a little energy left.

I'm doing a solid job but I'm running out of gas.
