November catches ORDA by surprise again.

Milo, all your gloom and doom was proven false. High Peaks was load tested and certified on December 22nd. Unless there was a lot of natural snow, the old lift was never open by then. It opened on the last day of 2020. They would've opened it sooner if it weren't for that Christmas Grinch storm.

Sunway was load tested on December 10th. It opened on December 18th, as soon as they had made snow on the terrain it serves.

Sno! Welcome back.

I was wrong about the construction schedule but I was right about everything else. A carpet loader on a beginner lift is just dumb, and the new Lift 6 is a disaster.

No, you're wrong on everything. I heard from an instructor at Whiteface that the new quad at Bear Den with the loading carpet (same one as Sunway) is so much faster than the lift it replaced that it allows them to get more runs in during the timeframe of a lesson. The number one factor that kills capacity on a lift is stops and slows. The majority of stops and slows on any fixed grip lift are due to kids without poles not being able to get to the load point in time. The loading carpet eliminates that. After the upper lifts went on wind hold, I rode the Bear Den lift 5 times in a row today to see how things were going. In 5 rides, it only stopped once, and generally slowed down only once per ride. That is really good for a beginner lift.

As for Lift 6, I'm not sure what you wanted. Did you want to keep the 54 year old double chair that had several multi-week closures after breakdowns? Is having no access to any of that terrain at all somehow preferable to a brand new lift? Yes I know they messed up your sacred Dark Side Glades. It was inevitable with any new installation. Let's just hope they clean it up nicely for next season.

I disagree on the conveyor belt for loading. Once people get used to it there are hardly any slow downs and even less stops. Yes there will always be a first time person who isn’t sure what to do, but after a run or two it is very easy
