New Gear for this Season

I love the Ripstick.

I picked up a pair of Ripstick 96s late last season, and so far I am very happy with them. They ski well in a variety of conditions, making them a good choice as a daily driver at Whistler. They’re also light enough to be a decent touring ski, and I have them paired with some Duke PTs for easy slackcountry laps without having to switch skis.

Otherwise, I’m on Black Crows Camox Freebirds with Zeds when I’m in the backcountry.

Nice setups! I have the Salomon Shift bindings on my 96s for the same purpose. I use Black Crows for my touring setup too, the Orb Freebirds with Alpinist bindings.

What about old gear or … just closeout gear.

In case you’re in NH next weekend.

My real addition this season will probably be boots, that's the one piece of equipment I won't skimp on. I have always had circulation issues, I want to try some of these new BOA boots if I can find them. Fischer and Salomon seem like the two that will fit my foot best. I've bene skiing a 110 flex the last 5-7 years, but may have to step it up to 120. I think the key to boots is take your time, try on a lot of stuff, sit in them for a while and most importantly find a boot fitter who knows what they are talking about.
Picked up my new skis today. Asked Jimmy at the Ski Company in the Cuse if they had any Atomic Hawx with BOA.They don’t sell Atomic boots but he thought the Fischer’s he had with BOA would pair nicely with my new skis. I like my current boots (even with the duct tape in em) so am gonna go bout it stepwise i.e. See how they ski with my current boots then decide on new boots.

I just got new boots 2 season’s ago so no need for them. But if I was I’d probably hold out on the whole BOA thing and see how it pan’s out. Are they just market hype or something that will become the norm? Only time will tell. The cable’s concern me with longevity and reliability… I will be paying attention to scuttlebutt for sure

Jimmy said more boots will have em in a few years.
It’ was used on dang boarder boots before going on skiing boots.
Lots of sports have em.
How different outfits implement it for ski boots will be interesting.

Had a chance to try on a pair of BOA boots by Solomon at Snowbound Expo. Felt good. The man helping me and my friend explained that the boot designers really like the fact that the plastic can be thinner because there was no need to support lower buckles. Tightening up the BOA was easier than doing up buckles. Much easier to loosen when taking boots off.

If the boots that were a good fit for me came with BOA instead of lower buckle(s), that would be fine with me.

At Snowbound 2023, Phil and Tricia talked about BOA boots in their presentation on Sunday.
