New Gear for this Season

Had a chance to try on a pair of BOA boots by Solomon at Snowbound Expo. Felt good. The man helping me and my friend explained that the boot designers really like the fact that the plastic can be thinner because there was no need to support lower buckles. Tightening up the BOA was easier than doing up buckles. Much easier to loosen when taking boots off.

If the boots that were a good fit for me came with BOA instead of lower buckle(s), that would be fine with me.
Went to Ski Company in Cuse yesterday for boots, as Jimmy the Colgate ski team coach said it would be a good day to do it. He set me up with the new Salomon's S/Supra BOA. They fit like nice warm gloves. Much easier to get in & out than my old boots. He said they haven’t had problems with BOA.

A friend of mine bought the Solomon's last year and the boa device came off after only a few days on the hill. The piece holding it onto the boot was broken. He was still able to tighten the boot and it was an easy fix at no cost from Solomon, but he did have the thing dangling from his boot for a couple of weeks.

I have the Fischer RC4 boa and it was a game changer last year in terms of comfort, warmth and performance. Last year when I got them the only options were the Salomon, Fischer and K2. I never tried on the Solomon and I found the Fischer much more comfortable and better fit for my foot than the K2. There seem to be a lot more options out now. Technica, Nordica and I think Atomic all have BOA now. I am sold on the tech for sure.
