Michigan Conditions

Looking promising to be skiing next Saturday

Caberfae is going to open this weekend, but then will close and concentrate on snowmaking until the following weekend.

That's the same schedule that my home hill in northern VA is taking in the next 10 days. Although Massanutten has to contend with temps in the 50s this weekend while the highs for Caberfae will be in the 30s. There is unlikely to be any ungroomed terrain at Mnut until January (a few short blacks with snowmaking not groomed after enough base). Mnut has averaged 35 inches of snow per season in the last 20 years or so.

Nub's Nob and the Highlands are opening on Dec. 1. Boyne Mountain is opening on Dec. 2. I'm going to check them out using Indy and Ikon in mid-January.

Most of Michigan will get open this weekend

Ironically, most of the ski resorts in the southeast will be open this weekend too. Snowshoe and the other hills in WV will have the most coverage, plus a bit of natural snow. Snowshoe is on Ikon (owned by Alterra) and will probably stay open midweek. Timberline is having a Preview Weekend Dec. 2-3 and then closing midweek to focus on snowmaking for a while longer.

The Perfect family who took over Timberline a few years ago know all about how tricky it is to get open after running Perfect North in Indiana for decades. Snowmaking has started there in earnest but no opening date yet.

Ropes are strung.
Features and jumps installed. Opens Tomorrow.
Let the fun & games begin.
Have yet to watch a mass start at Hyland.
Show starts at 3 their time after the dang boarders 🏂 get out of skool today.
Some could be a bit rusty.

Caberfae Peaks in the background almost looks like an actual mountain in this pic.

Caberfae is holding up well for the most part. Hasn’t been much snowmaking weather and when it was prime weather a couple of weeks ago they had their power issues. Snow held up great today, even with temps in the mid 40’s
