Magic Conditions

How many TRs did we even get? It's not really a thing anymore.

Those numbers (73/81) don't really tell the full story. It was tough.

Don't know enough about Magic, but Plattekill's insurance policy are those mountain rentals. Season was good especially all things considered.

Not one dedicated Magic TR was posted this season. 73 inches YTD, about the same as Plattekill.
The flip side of having ongoing Conditions threads is that it's a lot easier to just add a post than to make the effort to create a separate dated TR thread.

Your TRs are great no matter where you go. Personally I don't take that many pictures consistently. Sometimes I feel like taking the time to write up a half-day trip to a small mountain for others, but usually I don't think anyone else would care.

We've always had conditions threads. Sadly TRs are mostly a thing of the past.

Glad to see Broski’s front page story on Magic. I would have done a TR when I was there but there was only one trail open. Not much to report on. Oh, and it was cold AF and I’m glad the Red Chair didn’t break down while I was on it.

Greetings from Londonderry,

Today is officially Autumn and we are getting closer and closer to our favorite time of year: ski season! But fall here in Vermont is a close second.

So we celebrate the arrival of Autumn every year with scenic lift rides up to Sunshine Corner for great views, brews and grilled foods. The Green Lift gets inspected, with its 22 new chairs, on Friday and then the lift runs for the public on Saturday starting at 11am, with last rides down at 4pm. This Saturday we will also have live music at Sunshine Corner starting at 1pm and then two more bands live on the Black Line Tavern stage from 7-11pm. Your lift ticket purchase includes the cover charge for the music both in afternoon and at night, otherwise its $10 at the door of the BLT for the double feature of Kristian Montgomery and the Winter Kill Band plus Sean K. Preston and the Loaded Pistols with their high-energy southern rock sound. Josh and Stan will be slinging great craft brews, wine, ciders and seltzers during the day (with sunny skies predicted) along with brats, burgers and dogs on the grill. (Please bring cash to Sunshine Corner for food & beverage.) Cornhole games will also be at the Corner. More info here for Saturday.

Last Saturday, we held our first of 3 "Friends of Magic" Work Days. We started glade clean-up in The Wardrobe which is our largest on-map glade and will continue this work at our next FOM Day on October 1. A brand new valve house was also completed near the top of Talisman! Thank you to all in our ski community who came out!

Our operations crew has really been busting it and despite a few timing set-backs, contractors have been working hard on key lift and snowmaking pond projects. Dan, Adam and Mike have completed the painting, wood-slat assembly and varnishing on the 22 new chairs for Green Lift so its ready for state inspection Friday and operation for Saturday. Matt has been working with Pfister's crew who have been here for over a week to tackle the 3 remaining Quad lift towers that required re-engineering of sheaves and tower arms/hangers before the lift could spin again with haul rope back on. Thanks to Matt's expert welding, some of it from a telehandler to reach the tower arms, both Towers 7 and 6 are nearly complete, with Pfister's crew just needing to install the new downhill combo sheave on Tower 6 tomorrow. Then comes Tower 13 which is in an especially difficult location for installation. Matt has some welding fabrication work on key components prior to that. But, significant progress has been on the Quad to get that spinning and eventually ready for December opening.

The Snowmaking Pond dam project has been hampered some by added requirements and wet weather, but the project continues and we will work closely with the state to insure water is available as needed as Hunter Excavating finishes it up later this fall.

As Autumn rolls in, that means that our Tier 2 pricing on Season Passes has only 3 weeks left before prices go up by up to $100 per pass. Magic has plenty of options and we appreciate your support of independent, local-Vermont owned, community-oriented skiing and riding!

Check out our Pre-Season affordable pass options here

Hope to see you your smiling faces around the mountain this fall as we work to make this next ski season at Magic the best one yet with more snowmaking and lifts!

Just two weeks left for discounted Season Passes to where skiing still has its soul.

Greetings from Londonderry,

A quick update to let you know what's going on this week as we head toward October.

First off, with October arriving on Saturday, that means our pre-season discounted season pass sale saving up to $100 per pass comes to a close in two weeks on 10/14. So don't miss out on being a part of the Magic family of fun-loving, adventure-seeking skiers and riders who make this ski area an oasis.

Make Winter Magical (and Affordable) with a Season Pass Here

The leavers are changing and so Sunshine Corner will be the place to be on Saturday as we again spin the Green Lift from 11a-4p for great views, brews and grilled food up at the Corner. We have cornhole to play there as well! It was fun seeing so many out there last weekend (and I only burned myself once on the grill)! Then after the lift shuts down, we have Sammy B playing at the Tavern from 5-8pm. The Magic Merchants store will also be open from 11-5pm for shopping. More info here for Saturday.

Food and Brews at the Corner on Saturday! Sammy B at the Tavern 5-8p

Of course, Chef Aimee will be preparing fine dinners at the Tavern both tonight and Friday. And, don't forget this Saturday is also "Friends of Magic" Work Day #2 and there are both painting projects at the base area and glade clean-up in The Wardrobe. Arrive around 8:30 for coffee and muffins at the tent before heading out, with complimentary lunch and lift rides to the corner for our workers in the afternoon!

More work for The Wardrobe glade.

Work continues on many project fronts. Pfister's crew has been here this week to finish adjustments to Quad Tower 7 & 6. The final tower with major work is Tower 13. Yesterday, it was a major slog to get the lull with dual man-bucket lifting arm to Tower 13. The location is extreme and it took an entire day to get the machine in place at Tower 13. Access remains difficult for both the crew and equipment and we estimate at least two week's worth of work for the new tower arm and sheave assembly, and then we can spin the lift again. The pond expansion work also continues with the spillway work in full swing. We hope to begin a partial refill of water once dam concrete work is done.

Spillway work in progress!

Lots of big capital intensive projects to help make Magic even better and better for our skiers and riders will finish up in November. Nothing ever goes according to plan, of course, but our crew and partners keep digging deeper and doing all that they can to get these across the finish line, and I appreciate all their efforts.

We will see some of you this week at the Tavern and on the mountain!
