I can’t shake the idea that global warming going to fuck eastern skiing up eventually has already fucked eastern skiing. The seasons will get worse & worse, with progressively more rain & less snow over the next 10-15 years.

There will still be skiing, it will just be more like skiing in West Virgina or Pennsylvania or North Carolina. Short seasons, mostly manmade snow. We’ll get good powder days every once in a while. Huge dumps maybe once a season.

Mountains like MRG & Magic will struggle are struggling.

Seriously. Fifty years ago snowmaking was limited to a few movable guns, mostly placed in high traffic areas near the lifts. Gore had no snowmaking until 1976. Some years there were washed out weekends, but otherwise we generally had what we would now call excellent conditions. We never had the top to bottom hard pack that is common now.

It's better out west, but it's still the same story. Shorter seasons and more reliance on snowmaking and grooming. The change in the northern climate is undeniable.

I've been tracking the effect of rising temps since I bought a condo at Pico in the late 80's and the first real reports about global warming were coming out around the same time, there is no question that almost all the initial predictions and conclusions have come true, better snow making and grooming are holding off total disaster in the Eastern Ski industry, but what's to come? I'm at the end of my ski days but I feel for my kids and grandkids who love skiing.
 
Que Sera,Sera and nuttin' changing that , weather guessers notwithstanding 😉
