ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Love it. Good experience? I have had almost zero issues with RANs from here to the south.

I had one failed charge when the Newburgh one first opened and then was all good.
The only issues I have anymore are evolve NY, specifically the one in Keene and the new one at the newcomb exit. Both of them fail 80% of the time. The evolve in schroon works every time. The evolve in preble works everytime. I was in contact with the department in NYS explaining the issues but they say they are working fine. I'm like whatever you f'ng idiots, I only use them every week. The newcomb exit has Tesla chargers as well, I don't even look at the CCS chargers there.

Queensbury is a good location. I would rather it by the gym but grilled cheese sandwiches at the diner are ok , which BTW are not as good as the grilled cheese at the charging station in Herkimer.

Overall the charging experience has improved immensely since I bought the truck, that said if you use them exclusively you will pay more than if you have a gasser.

My first year all in charging cost was 1000. Coming into end of second year it is probably like 300 and most of that was a trip to Alabama

Without the miles that really doesn't tell much. I don't keep track of what I spend but 70% of my charging is at home so I'm doing fine in overall fuel costs.

Woops. I am at 26,140. My first year had less driving but part of it was before I built up solar credits. The 1,000 was I think prorated to 10 or 12,000 miles. I had a long post about it.

Before anyone howles, while I finance my panels the monthly financing and $15 to be hooked up to the system is cheaper than my pre Rivian bill with bo solar panels.

When I tallied the first year I was 90 percent home. When I am skiing Belle I don’t need to charge much - a top off on the way home, leaving my house with a full charge. I did do it once on one charge to see if I could and barely made it back with like 9 miles but doing that repeatedly is not great for the battery.

Do you use PlugShare? It is annoying to comb multiple apps. I have found that PlugShare plus Chargeway and rivian app get me 95 percent there.

How many miles if it to bell? I get about 230 miles on a full charge and the diagnostics did everything was functioning properly. It's been like this since I've owned it. I'm used to it now.
If I could get 300 miles I would eliminate fast chargers. Next one I guess

Chargepoint. Those phase 2 chargers installed all over the place were a waste of money. No one ever uses them... I use them once in while is they are right in front of me and I am going to be away from the car for a few hours.
Tesla and Rivian Auto Link to your CC. That's the way they all should be.

I am sorry they haven’t fixed it that seems not cool to me.

I haven’t tried to get to 0 very often. Belle is 144 miles driving so I got 288 plus 9. I probably picked up 5 or 10 percent (say 20 miles) trickle charging off a 110 overnight but I can’t remember. I do check the guess meter and it says getting to Belle is 60 percent up I. The cold and about 40 percent down in The cold again preconditioned

I think the furthest I have gone on a charge in the cold was 240 miles and it said I had 40 left. That was preconditioned and in conserve.

If I don’t precondition the car I think 230 in winter could make sense. But keep in mind I don’t use much heat if it is just me. I just use the heated surfaces.

This summer I think I went farther - like 270 and it said I had 45 miles left. While I was moving fast on 81 I was staying behind trailers with driver plus driving and controlling distance so I am sure that helped but most of that was 65-75 mph.

We should have the same battery - 141 kw of which after they released more 131 usable to get to 270 epa rating on ATs.

If I were driving all purpose or sport I would expect to get 230 in the winter.

Driving totally normal in winter with heat I have found 25 percent loss. Being miserly with heat I can get that down to 7 or 8 percent loss.

I am going up to gore over Xmas- I ll precondition and check what the charger range says at Queensbury and then again at gore. I think the queensbury charger is about 200 miles from me.

Also: important factor I drive blizzak lt winter tires which seem a bit more efficient than my ATs. Just anecdotal but it could add up.
