Hunter: Not Good, It's January

They took a page out of ORDA's book and undertook a massive expansion without any upgrades to snowmaking capacity. If you do this, then your expansion will not be open much, or you'll have to essentially abandon existing terrain.

I have a house close to Hunter, I have observed that they have blown snow every time it has gotten cold enough to get product., Even today they were blowing right up to about 11 am when temps were getting into the thirties all over the mountain. I have skied there since the Slutsky era and I think many romanticize how great that was. I am not criticizing Orville and Irv but I remember a ton of days with no snowmaking and lots of ice. This has been the most challenging season I remember in the Cats, forget the temps, the rain has been unrelenting, That said there are whales everywhere and the skiing was pretty good today on limited trails. If the rain wasn't in the forecast would be a decent weekend. I also must report that I got on a lift today with a bunch of regulars in their forties and fifties [younger than me]. They had a back pack speaker blasting the whole trip up. Ugh, music wasn't bad but I just didn't feel like hearing it, and they were yelling at each other trying to talk. People not everyone wants to hear your music. Get some earphones.

I got sandwiched on the lift at Song today about half the time between two brothers who I often ski with and are most likely close to yer age.
Twas non-stop story tellin with general just yakkin & laughin.
Fun times with the usual suspects.

People to tend to romanticize years gone by, and this seems to be especially true at resorts like Hunter that have changed hands multiple times. I've noticed the same thing at Killington, where people tend to romanticize the Preston Smith era.

The problem with Hunter is that they grew by roughly a third in size and didn't do any snowmaking upgrades. There are also a lot of inefficiencies in getting water to the North and West sides. That's why these areas see so little snowmaking and are severely underutilized compared to the front side.

Really can't stand this. Use headphones or go without music. You wouldn't blast music through bluetooth speakers on a plane. Don't do it on a lift when you're riding with other people.

Did they all chug a Pabst or Coors Light and toss it off the chair before the top?

well it was about 10:30 and the guy next to me 40/50 was drinking from a flask, I shouldn't have mixed up my post I was more concerned with the memories of the Slutsky days as opposed to current snowmaking, but people here are more interested in the backpack speaker,
