Hunter: Not Good, It's January

Both westway and annapurna having snowmaking infrastructure. Not sure if it works now but the Slutzkys and then peak would typically blow annapurna. Peak tried westway a few times and failed.
My non-expert opinion is they need to let Westway grow in and make it 100 feet wide tops.

If ya haven't been cliffed out then you haven't really skied Hunter. Ski the East's slogan is born from ice, Ski Hunter's should be born from dynamite.
I'm a bit fond of the post apocalyptic landscape. Feels like someone said you can't build here... And then the people with explosives and big machines showed up and said hold our beers...

Also if you haven't helped slide very large rocks off the trails you haven't skied Hunter. Maybe Vail should invest in some falling rock zone signs.

Not sure if you are kidding, but that is exactly what happened.

From the History of Hunter Mountain:
"State-run Belleayre Ski Center had opened a few years earlier, and was attracting a fair number of skiers each winter. In 1957 and again in 1958, the state studied the idea of opening a second ski area, but concluded that Hunter Mountain was too steep and rocky. "

The brothers were more interested in the project, because everyone told them it was impossible. They owned a contruction company, and dynamite was kind of their thing.

Andrew goes to Hunter sometimes and blasts stuff near there.

It’s interesting for sure but it always felt off for me. I prefer a more organic experience personally. Ski terrain that blends naturally into a mountains contours and fall lines is much more aesthetically pleasing.

That place looks forced. It’s disrespectful to the natural beauty of the Catskills.

The bumps in CNY just need frozen mown grass with a few inches of snow to ski on.
Most of the rocks here are rounded too from the last glacier deposits.
Some shale, but it flakes away & crumbles.
