I switched off beer and whiskey about five years ago when I read an article that the mega beer companies wanted to put calorie labels on cans and bottles. I said, huh, why would they do that? Well, the micro brewers we're grabbing part of their market, so, they wanted to remind people that their watered down urine like "light" beers only had around a hundred calories a can (less than soda!), and these beers dominate the market. A good IPA can be 400-500 calories, and I love IPAs, the funkier, the better. Now, add a shot of good bourbon or scotch, and we're hitting a thousand, or close to it. So, bam, Benny's favorite drink, a prime shot and beer, is maybe 40% of my daily caloric needs, in ten minutes, with no nutritional value, if I'm sedentary for the day. Stouts are even worse. Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, my fav, is 800 a bottle! ( Damn you lord!) So, do the math, especially if you don't stop at one. Sad. Life is not fair.
