Hometown USA: Glens Falls, NY

the interwebz is a weird place, based on his internet persona coach didn't strike me a someone i would necessarily enjoy hanging out with. a few seasons ago he hooked me up with a bogo voucher and we had a nice time skiing the better part of the afternoon and having a beer together.
 
Glad to see this reopened - Duckbutter sounds like you have done your homework and when you say you’d rather be 5 minutes closer to a mountain than a good meal you’re making the right choice in GF. Saratoga is great but you will be closer to what you want and pay a lot less for housing. I’ve been splitting my time between NYC where I work in the arts and GF/LG for over 25 years and I’ve seen Downtown GF go from a ghost town in the 90s when everyone was at the mall to a great little downtown with an arts scene (Hyde, Adk Theatre Festival, Chapman, Shirt Factory studios) good restaurants, best hospital between Albany and the border anchoring the economy, and what other upstate mill town still has its original mill cranking out quality product next to the river?

I’m a huge fan and lots of young families have moved in in the last 10-15 years. As someone else noted you have great cycling to the east in Washington Cty, and the lake and the whole adk park to the north. The growth here is slow and steady - the booms aren’t as high but the busts aren’t as low - and with the blue line limiting development to the immediate north it will keep growing here.

And the best part is, as a NYC weekender (here more in COVID) I don’t run into other NYCers at the farmers market! Take that Hudson Valley!

Yes, but most folks there place way more emphasis on college football than skiing. Cuse won a game this year. Tide another National Championship and Rebels won a Jan 2nd bowl game in Tampa, so they're happy. I’d rather do sports than watch em. Ski on.

Oh yeah, bud, advocating for higher minimum wages & better healthcare is “extreme” ?

The reason we don’t have to talk about politics anymore is that I know what everyone is gonna say. RA will always swing in with a “both sides are bad” take and we know that.

So, in the spirit of that, I will say that Glens Falls & Montana are both terrible and the only good place to live is in the middle. So you should move to Iowa.
