Hickory Ski Center Might Be Reopening

I don't think I took a picture of the tallest ferns, I was kinda freaked when I was in there.
Ferns shouldn’t be a problem in the winter, even monster ones.
The woody shrubs/brush are more likely to trip ya up under not enough snow.

I've been trying to get more information about this map:

One of the players behind the current effort sent me a photo of page from a book called Ski New York. (Would love get my hands on that book!)

Very interesting to see HOW MUCH SNOW was considered "needed" for a trail to open.

My buddy has a forest mower for the front of his cat. Same thing. He helped me with a overgrown lot in the middle of Albany. We fired that thing up at 730 am. Holy shit the stuff was flying. By the time the cops got there at 8 we had it cleared. Mashed shit right into the ground. When you hit the big trees that sound in unreal. There was no one sleeping in a three block area I'm sure.
The police laughed and wanted to see a demo. He took at a 4 inch diameter maple for him. 30 feet tall.

I watched something like that happen out a work window in Saratoga once. Holy crap, an entire little forest was cleared in a morning shift.

That’s exciting! A really cool place. I lived in Warrensburg for 6 winters….Hickory was open (barely) for the first 3, closed for the final 3. I could see the top of Birch Run/Ridge Run/Winter Run from the side yard of my house. I skied there when it was open only about 5 or 6 times. I would snowshoe, and later skin, when it wasn’t open.

I’m sure the 4” to get open back in the day was just to get the t-bar/beginner area open. Expectations were easier to manage back then I’d imagine.

Regeneration happens real fast in the tropical northeast. Over here in NH, Tenney has similar issues. They still haven’t even fully cleared the puckerbrush/striped maple thickets completely from the 2010 shut down. Trails are tighter than they used to be. They were marginally, nominally, open for a couple years but now are in limbo again, and it’s been a banner year for summer vegetation. Glades hold up a bit better but not much.

Anything happening with this? I heard they're planning another party, did they ever announce anything concerning a reopening?

We've had a front page story ready to go for weeks. I wish I could get go ahead to publish it.
