Have you ever had your gear stolen?

back in the day me and my buddy would exchange one of our skis at each break. when thieves would scope out our skies they would see a pair that does not match. no one is stealing what i am skiing on today.

My buddy had his skis stolen at a nice motel in SLC this winter. They were sophisticated enough to just go through the back window of his CRV, so as to not set the alarm off. There were valuables in the front seat area untouched.

I was just up in Killington a few weeks ago, and my friend there told me to hide all valuables in my car as I parked in his condo lot. There had been incidents, he told me. While I was waiting for him, I watched a junkie stumble out to the parking lot from another building. I have good junkie radar from living in 70s NYC. I always lock my skis at base areas in Vermont for the last decade or so, when the drug problem really got out of hand up there.

I've heard it's a common occurrence to have your gear stolen at Killington, only to find them for sale in the used section at shops in Rutland.

I've never had my gear stolen, but have had it mistakingly taken years ago when we were apres-skiing at the Snowshed Lodge at Killy. I had given my wife my hand-me-down beginner skis (Rossi Z1 if anyone cares). They were really cheap POS skis. When we came out they were gone, but my nice skis were still there. We then found a similar looking pair of Rossis on the rack. I thought about taking them and just being like "okay, these are our skis now", but did the right thing and left them. The next day we went to customer service and our skis had been returned. The lady working the counter said that the the guys who took them said "they were really sorry but were completely wasted". ?

Ever since then I always put my skis in the car/locker before I apres.

Hunter had a ski check at the base..but didn't this year? Which made no sense to me as it was more crowded than usual.
I guess Vail didn't want to spend the money on the attendant?

Hunter knew they had a problem with theft and that was a good cure. Have to see if it returns next season. If not..then WTF?

Wonder if ya can still get away with giving wives “really cheap POS skis" nowadays?

Asking for a friend.

Funny - because I've NEVER had anything stolen from Hunter.
