Greek Peak Conditions

It always rolls back a bit when it stops. The other two were different. And, I didn't particularly like that the guy said it wasn't normal. He said that every time it stopped, he and the head mechanic zoomed over to check it out.

I don't think that I normally see two or three snowmobiles at the top when a lift stops.

This was my first time being on a lift that stopped, rolled back, stopped and then went forwards. And I definitely heard "f*cking rollback. You did a good job." when I stopped to eavesdrop after the first one.

We were sent a pic of the line for 1A yesterday. What a shit show!
Wasn’t pretty, only braved it once and that was enough. Stayed on 4&5 and that wasn’t great but better.
I never really waited long. Just waited by lift entrance and waited till I seen a chair not filled and ask if I could join.
Conditions were very good and with the rain coming today think everyone had the same plan… ski Saturday. The amount of racers that showed up didn’t help things, but did seem to keep the masses on the front side. The lot at chair 5 I’ve certainly seen it fuller, probably only half full when I left at 1:00.

Yup, you know. Only time I ever ski chair 1 is first thing. Race days even better because you can get on the lift at 730. Once you have to wait, even a little bit, it's then time to hit chair 4. Lap 4 until 5 opens, then head to 5. Lap 5 until half hour before the bar opens then migrate back. Only way to go at GP, imo.

I don't know what changed at Greek but the past two weekend races, they have been holding people back at the RF gates and only letting the racers up early. They are going to lose a bunch of season pass holders from what I heard in the crowd. Combined with still having to take chair 3 to chair 4 makes me wonder if I should be at Greek. I almost got run over by a speeding snowmobile last week when chair 3 broke and a bunch of us started walking up under the lift and this snowmobile comes blasting by us at full speed on the bunny slope. Someone needs to change how Greek operates.

They did the same thing last Saturday, but not Sunday. The way its always been is that if they load early for the races, they load early for everyone. Whoever had the bright idea of not letting the general customers load early too obviously has their head up their ass. As if it isn't bad enough losing one of the best trails on the hill every weekend to the race program. Besides that, things have been pretty F'd up this year. Both 3, and 4, weren't running at opening yesterday. 4 broke this morning, but wasn't down long 5 opened late, but only 15 minutes. The conveyor on the quad has been a problem all season causing numerous shut downs to clean snow from beneath the track. You can feel it slipping often. Oh, and 5 is back to its old rollback issues, I actually witnessed it sweep a couple completely off the loading platfom a year or two ago.

Ok homer boy Camp, let me have it.

Didn’t have to this weekend, the little cut to bottom of Castor was being used. On right side of Platonic down low. Only thing it drops you down on the area they had some kind of water problem. But you could get to 4 and bypass 3.

I had a nice, easy quiet 5 runs off chair 5 this morning and got out before the rain.

When I got there at 9:45, they weren't loading. I got to see the chair stop, unloaded and it still rolled back a bit. I think that's the normal. Yesterday was not normal.

I did a bunch of reading yesterday about chair lifts and rollback.

Read the posts from Daph on this. I felt much better.
