Ok @sig got me thinking.
I'm pretty sure my the greatest lengths I ever went to to ski a day was last year on my birthday. 2 am alarm for 5 1/2 hours in each direction. I think it was the second best day of my life, so there is that.
What's the craziest thing you've done for a day? You know in the history of your whole life.
No doubt this is a flatlander (or former flatlander) thread. My peeps up at Gore are going to ski their 4-8 (as of now) and they are going to dig it. They ain't driving to Killy for a foot or Hunter for two feet.I have nothing that would compare to this for a day on the hill. Mostly because I've always lived in ski country.
Going to be interesting (to me anyway) to see how the blog (front page, the actual blog) changes in a few years when I'm nouveau local. Going to have to rely on others to bring the insanity I guess. Or maybe my insane sojourns will be to Smuggs.
You may be right. Time will tell.I'll be very surprised if you drive past Gore once you locate there.
THIS!!Joining the ski team in high school. I wasn't really into racing but if you were a half-decent skier, you could make the team. On race days, you could free ski until your start time, do your one race (I usually crashed), then free ski the rest of the day. What a scam to get out of school! The other best part was the look on the other teachers faces when you went around with the note they had to sign acknowledging that you would be missing class to go skiing. Priceless.
If you live south of Exit 20, Killington or Whiteface are only about 30 minutes farther than Gore. If you live in North Creek, Killington is 2 hours away, Whiteface is more than an hour. If you live in North Creek and like tree skiing and long flat connector trails, you're gonna spend most of your time at Gore.Lots of Gore peeps also have Killy passes...
