Greatest Lengths for a Day on the Hill

If you live south of Exit 20, Killington or Whiteface are only about 30 minutes farther than Gore. If you live in North Creek, Killington is 2 hours away, Whiteface is more than an hour. If you live in North Creek and like tree skiing and long flat connector trails, you're gonna spend most of your time at Gore.

i live in albany so the drive to southern vermont and gore is roughly the same, time wise. it is so much more relaxing getting to gore. grab a giant coffee, set cruse on 75 and blast tunes. i don't even need to use my hands for parts of it. southern vermont... not so much

Mine is just what I do most Saturdays. 3.5Hr drive in good weather to ski Caberfae Peaks and all of it's 400'.

In the winter when northern VA has two blizzards, my daughter had a snow day on a Wed in NC. I drove the 4 hours to Massanutten (70 acres, 1100' vert) and back with her for a day trip.

The next storm was slated to start that Friday morning. By Thu lunch time I'd managed to come up with a condo on the mountain that started Friday night. Picked her up from school Thu afternoon, drove 3.5 hours to Charlottesville to a friend's house and slept for a few hours. Left her to hang out with her friend until the roads cleared enough for the other mom to drive the girls to Mnut (usually an hour). I was driving over the mountains around 7am as the snow was starting to come down. That was the only ski trip I drove our 4WD pickup. Had a ball skiing fresh snow solo on Fri and Sat. Took the other mom at least 2 hours, maybe more to get to Mnut on Sun morning. My daughter had school on Mon so we drove home that afternoon. The other mom and daughter stayed over since the condo was for all week and northern VA schools had snow days.

Long after I left there were about 10 years where I dedicated a day to ski at Jay, where I grew up skiing. ~5 hours one way. Almost always the first week or two of March. I would check the weather regularly, aiming for the best spring day, leave well before dawn. Have 2 beers at the end of the day and visit my grandparents (cemetary) on the way out of town. Back well after dark. F'ing loved it.

About 10 years ago I left southeast PA early in the morning. Met some friends off of 287 in NJ and drove up to Mt. Snow. Skied the whole day then we drove back. I only drove to and from NJ but overall it was about 11-12 hrs round trip.

You may be right. Time will tell.

Lots of Gore peeps also have Killy passes so there is that. And I think i can say confidently no one is out their in their car pursuing NY content the way I (we) do.

We will see.
The one way 4 hr to Gore or 4 1/2 to Killington to ski and then drive back has always been easier later in the season, when the sun comes up earlier and stays up later. Driving in the dark is way more tiring. Last mortgage payment on my house is getter closer, so is owning a house in Warren County.
