astonished the lengths you guys from the south go to for a day on the slopes.

Ok @sig got me thinking.

I'm pretty sure the greatest lengths I ever went to to ski a day was last year on my birthday. 2 am alarm for 5 1/2 hours in each direction. I think it was the second best day of my life, so there is that.

What's the craziest thing you've done for a day? You know, in the history, of your whole life.

Nope , ain't happening , i flatly refuse to drive more than 2.5 hrs one way to ski , anything longer is an overnite .

I think it was 2002. I wasn't driving yet. 3ft late season storm (March maybe it was even April can't remember) my dad and I left NJ something like 2am, drove to Whiteface (~5.5hrs), skied, and drove home. I think it was 22hrs RT. Too bad for him I didn't have a license or even a permit yet, we haven't done a day like that in a long time ha

I had a few up all night on redeye flights + skiing...ski, I mean, work trips in recent years.

i did stowe and back in a day from albany. chasing snow that morning it had to be 4 to 4.5 there and 3.5 home. was young and dumb. living in albany puts a lot of choices in the 1.5 to 2.5 range. spoiled for sure.

My rule of thumb is one hour of drive time for one hour of skiing for a day trip. That gets me anything in the Catskills and Holiday Valley in western NY. I’d definitely daytrip Magic Mt, but it’s not looking promising this year due to COVID.

I'm with Warp Daddy on this one. 2.5 max for a full day. Mostly I stay about an hour from home. Good for short days before work. However I just did 15 hours rt to pick up a rescue dog for my wife. We saw lots of snow but no skiing on that trip.

Opening day at sugarloaf driving from north jersey 8 hours each way to ski half a trail in early October.

Joining the ski team in high school. I wasn't really into racing but if you were a half-decent skier, you could make the team. On race days, you could free ski until your start time, do your one race (I usually crashed), then free ski the rest of the day. What a scam to get out of school! The other best part was the look on the other teachers faces when you went around with the note they had to sign acknowledging that you would be missing class to go skiing. Priceless.

Ohhhh, dropped a us ski team gold pass of the rasta bahn at vail... And it worked for all of us

There was this one time, in the days leading up to a huge dump, that I kept harassing this guy who runs a ski blog, trying to arrange access to a kick-ass ski area in the Catskills in the days before they were scheduled to open for the season. I’ll have to finish the story for you later....
