Gore Mountain Conditions

Does anyone know the date of ORDA's next board meeting?
Looks like it’s the last Friday in March at the Big Jump place.
It says 2025 on the title but they might’ve not caught it when they put in the new dates.
The last meeting was on 12DEC25 so I think it’s the 2026 schedule.
Who knows? Tis ORDA.

I'm against the idea of a consultant, having worked at one place that used them and was a f'n madhouse.
A contractor is a sub-optimal solution, but ORDA needs a facilities maintenance plan. The loss of a World Cup event because of an unsafe observation deck is the most egregious example of deferred maintenance, but there are others as well. What they really need to do is create a facilities department responsible for maintaining all the venues. You can't leave that to the area managers. They're gonna need consultants to organize that and find qualified people to run it. It was crzy short sighted for the Board to spike that maintenance plan proposal.

There is still room for improvement, specifically having both areas open 7 days a week. But the biggest hurdle, being able to make snow on them within a reasonable timeframe, has already been cleared.
It's not really acceptable to open a quad lift with only one trail, they way they have with High Peaks and Straightbrook this year. Even Burnt Ridge still has only one trail available to the public when Echo is always close for racing on the weekend. And they were only able to do that this year because it was several degrees colder than normal and there were no wash outs. Last year was a complete early season fail and they have same system this year, but better weather. They have expanded the Gore footprint without expanded snowmaking enough to cover it. The result is Gore opens slower than almost every other ski area around here.

Let's say Gore was only the North and the East Side. Size of West Mountain, often open by Christmas. 🥸

Would you have a more favorable opinion?

I feel like Gore's issue isn't snowmaking or maintenance or bad decisions, it's the natural layout of the mountain makes it difficult to manage. Burnt Ridge only has 3 trails, but no Burnt would means no interconnect so it has to get opened.

NYSEF is a really important program. I wish they could find another spot on the mountain to train though. I always thought training on Sagamore would make a lot of sense. Maybe they could cut another trail between Echo and Hedges that leads into Twister or better yet open that access road off hedges so we can ski to the base that way?

But we love Gore for the quirks, most vertical in the east!! Keeps it from getting too busy. So many fun hidden spots.
