A contractor is a sub-optimal solution, but ORDA needs a facilities maintenance plan. The loss of a World Cup event because of an unsafe observation deck is the most egregious example of deferred maintenance, but there are others as well. What they really need to do is create a facilities department responsible for maintaining all the venues. You can't leave that to the area managers. They're gonna need consultants to organize that and find qualified people to run it. It was crzy short sighted for the Board to spike that maintenance plan proposal.

Every venue has a manager. They should be in charge of the maintenance schedule. People in those positions are not overworked. You don't need a6 year degree to know a deck needs work.

Saw the new lodge is "soft opening" this weekend and with the restaurant starting next weekend on the 16th.

I may get this wrong... I believe the guy who runs a grill in Glens Falls (Southpaw?) might be the one opening the restaurant at the new lodge. Great reputation down here, but of course that will mean nothing, starting new 50 miles north. What is the expectation? Will it's LOCATION be a success?

I thought it was great today. The surface was perfect carving snow. I was shocked at how full the parking lot was at 850am!! But Once on the Mt I never saw a line.

But they are apparently not doing that job. If you hire ski area managers who know what good snow is and how to make, or senior managers that can bring international events, chances are they don't know much maintaining the buildings and equipment. ORDA is big enough and operates enough properties to have a full time professional staff to manage it.
