Gore Mountain Conditions

ORDA loves to build stuff at Gore but does not seem to want to operate the stuff they build. Here we are in mid January, and, right on schedule, the barely used Burnt Ridge HSQ is not operating in its 17th year since it was installed. What a joke. I see the Ski Bowl remains closed for business. I am sure once they finish spending the now $40 million (plus sewage system cost) on the Ski Bowl it will still not be able to open it every day.

"We cannot find employees to operate the new Ski Bowl Lodge" will be the comment from ORDA.

It was way better today. There’s still some gravel and thin spots but most of it is open except Twin Fawns and the other trails near there.
I don’t think it read cold enough to make snow today. It felt like high humidity too.
It’s disappointing the Uncas and Open Pit still aren’t open.

They must not have enough workers, or at least those who want to make snow. It's a brutal job.
Definitely a tough job, but more important now with changes in winter weather/climate. ORDA has to find a way to attract and keep people that want to do it (more $, housing, work culture, etc) in an industry that is way more reliant on man-made snow now.

Again, proactive not reactive.

Tom. thanks for bringing this back to the conditions thread. I thought yesterday was way better than what I expected. q, the burntridge quad ran yesterday and kept a lot of the racers and their families there...not enough but not bad. My daughter and I really didn't wait on lines. Worker shortage is a major problem...quit bitching and sign up for a snowmaking shift. All we need is 15 inches and everybody shuts up. It's Gore...Get there before 7:45 if you want to be in the upper lots on Race days...Expect to be Gored and be reactive...have fun and hopefully you will be able to get out of your parking spot at the end of the day. So much complaining yet they were parked almost to Wevertown this weekend. God I love Gore!

Welcome to NYS. Gore is not a private area and they happen to be in an economically depressed area. Whatever Visas they are able to get are loading lifts and, ahem, working parking lol(and you see how well that's going) We're not like Lake Placid that get the cool visa workers. It is what it is, I have been a Gore passholder for almost 40 years...I will keep coming back. Once the complainers start having an affect, then my trails will be less crowded...ha ha ha ha ha
