Gore Mountain Conditions

Looks nice ❄️.

Might be time for a ride ⛷️ .

At 8PM from the base lodge camera there was a ton of snow being made near the Sunway Chair and Bear Cub. I would suppose this is for weekend lower mountain skiers and the money to be made from beginners and lessons? Unfortunately I am a weekday lower mountain skier. Fingers crossed they might open either (or both?) for a Thursday or Friday test drive? BTW the 5 PM, or was it 6PM?, camera showed gondolas spinning and activity around them. Maybe, just maybe, it is almost ready to open? Again I bet they would love the $$$ from what could be a very profitable weekend if they can get just a bit more of the mountain open. Kind of a "SEE IT and they will come" situation.

The mountain is skiing very nicely for this early in the season.

Tahawus was excellent, Sleeping Bear much improved from Monday when it had a lot of bare spots.

Wild Air very good at the top, a bit narrow where heading into Pot Luck

Sunway to Quicksilver to 3B to Jamboree was excellent. Did not ski lower Sunway.

Blowing snow on Twister, Showcase, Foxlair.

A bit crowded at times, but manageable.

I was pleased to see Bear Cub Quad running today. I saw a good number of Lesson groups getting some fine instruction. They were getting their $$ worth! I was jealous! My first runs of the year also were on Bear Cub and were not very stellar... at least at the top of the trail. Eventually from spying on the lessons from the chairlift I was able to find the proper line to take down the trail. Age 75 definitely has its drawbacks. It would be nice if Gore would continue to use B Cub Quad more during weekdays. I personally wouldn't mind a rack or two for skis near the Bear Cub Quad lift. There are some of us who are quite happy spending most of our day there. A rack would allow us to leave skis there when we take our Lodge breaks.
BTW, Only downer of the day was a few boarder bombers ripping down the trail. Not a good mix! Thankfully I saw no collisions .

The snowmaking quality at Gore has been very good for a few years now, but they just don't cover enough area. Belleayre, Whiteface, Killington and Windham were all top to bottom last weekend, but Gore has hardly made any snow above the Saddle. Today's snow report is that they ".. are shifting some of our snowmaking to the upper mountain areas including Ruby Run, Foxlair and Topridge." They should have been able too open High Peaks by now, but they don't even have a continuous green trail from the Saddle. When will they be able to open Burnt Ridge or that $30 million zippy thingy lodge? Where are they gonna be able to make snow when they have to build the Hole Shot course. ORDA has committed Gore to way too much without providing the amount of snowmaking all that will require.

Why is Powder Pass open without seeing a flake of snowmaking?
Is it because it’s in a sweet spot?

Were concerns about snowmaking capacity the reason for eliminating the additional trails that had once been planned at the new Hudson chair?
