Fall Weather 2022

Got some friends and relatives around the Tampa/SW Florida area.
Ian’s most likely to be a shitshow.
Hope folks stay safe.

Looks like it's already started

Too much rain headed to NC. Hurricane Ian will be Cat 1 when it makes a second landfall near Charleston, SC. High tide is at noon at Charleston. All schools closed in the Triangle today.

Storm track and prediction as of 7:45am on Fri, Sept. 30
Charlotte is just north of the yellow dot where Ian is expected to change to a Tropical Depression

We have a client on the ocean, just SW of Charleston. Can't tell from that map if it is still true, but last night landfall was forecast to be north/east of the city, so if true, the surge shouldn't be too bad for them. TBD, we will see.

How far inland? The Charleston website for hurricanes includes a storm surge map. The projections along the SC coast show blue (1 foot) goes all the way down to Hilton Head, with bits of yellow (3 feet) mixed in.

SC local news station report that includes video.

Behind the dunes. Oceanfront.
Here's the 10:40am storm surge forecast for the Charleston area. Goes well past Hilton Head to the south.

Looking at the NOAA radar for Wilmington, NC at 10:45am, easy to see that all of NC will be impacted. Raining up in VA all the way to Washington DC already. RDU and CLT are on the Southwest travel advisory list of airports people can rebook flights for free 9/27 to 10/3, along with all the SC airports served by SW.
