Fall Weather 2021

Pattern isn’t looking all that great next few weeks, looks like a gradient pattern north of I-90. Weaker systems may snow a few inches but larger storms will have a rain risk

Ugh

No where looks good

An excerpt from NWS ALY, admittedly way far out. This is a flip, with NY on the cold side of the event.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...

The long term period will focus on two storm systems ... Sunday night through
Monday and a second mainly on Wednesday...

.....

The (second) upper-level shortwave and surface low will push across the
region on Wednesday. Latest guidance shows a track to the south of
our region which would likely lead to precipitation mainly being in
the form of snow
, though some rain could mix in across some valley
areas, especially from Albany and points south. Highs once again in
the 20s across the higher terrain to the 30s in the valleys.

That lines up with what they said. Reread my post: two systems, first rain on Sunday, second chance of snow on Weds.

Here's the NWS ALY 4am update:

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...

Wednesday, (the) next system looks to impact our region. At this time,
guidance is in surprisingly good agreement that a surface low will
track south of the region Wednesday afternoon and evening. While
this system looks to be associated with an open wave aloft and will
therefore be fairly progressive, much of the region has the
potential to see the first light to moderate snowfall of the season.
GEFS members show decent clustering offshore with low pressure and a
surface high to the north of our region, which is a favorable setup
for our snow. However, will emphasize that this event is still
almost a week away
and changes to the forecast track of the system
(and therefore precipitation type and amounts) are to be expected
over the coming days. At this time, will mention likely PoPs
Wednesday afternoon with rain/snow mix for valley areas and snow for
areas north of I-90 as well as the higher elevations.
