Fall Weather 2021

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR EASTERN COLUMBIA COUNTY UNTIL 7 AM SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Storm total snow of 5 to 11 inches with highest amounts above 800 feet.

* WHERE...Eastern Rensselaer and Eastern Columbia Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Snowfall rates may reach half inch to one inch per hour at times this evening, especially above 1500 feet in the Taconics and the southern Greens. Strong winds and moderate to heavy snow will likely reduce of visibilities and result in blowing snow.

— HVW Commentary —
A localized heavy snow event as a result of the departing low pressure system. The higher elevations of eastern Columbia County have seen a heavy wet snow for several hours. Snowfall amounts over 6” have been reported in the higher elevations near the NY/CT border. The futurecast map suggests only another inch or two possible in the NE parts of Columbia. Use extreme caution traveling tonight in the eastern half of Columbia county.

I don't want to get too excited but next week might be looking interesting. Then again the model run tomorrow could show nothing.

Open snow is great for me > I need the heads up on potential. I hadn't actually seen that yet (so thanks for posting).

GFS 168 Hr not showing much yet.

I'm really liking opensnow, both the App and Website. I subscribed to the premium version for $40 and it can be shared between 4 different users. I split it with my buddy for $20 each.

I just use the website, I thought it was $10?

I feel like I don't need it on my phone. Phone time is already go time. Desktop is for making plans. Do you use it to call an audible? I use this site's weather center for that.

Check yer colors Harv.
That be the mossy color ~12”-20” for the Tug and some of the Daks with less around it.
Zoom it.
Over a foot of snow isn't much?

Dude, sigh.

OK my opinion. You can't just read these maps at face value.

That forecast is 168 hours or 7 days out. What you see there could easily be the model estimating the impact over a week of run-of-the-mill lake effect. If Gore or Whiteface are REALLY going to get 8 inches in a day, at some point the GFS will go pink, way over estimating it. The maps are usually way high, but they can help you find snow.

It does show that cold air will likely be in place.
