East Coast Ski Trip Outside of NY

I’m interested in that single chair. Seems very cool and relaxing.
That's one way to get a little "alone time" when taking kids on a ski vacation. :)

The MRG trails are classic New England from what I understand. I liked Antelope once I learned where to keep up speed towards the bottom.

I certainly don't regret riding it. You need the alone time after sitting in line for 45 minutes with each person knowing more then the next.
LOL -- so true
Last time I skied MRG was 1987, group of us from Smuggs went and had a blast. I suggested that myself and my housemates should take trip over there for a day. It was then I was informed one of my housemates couldn't go because he rode a board. I thought it was stupid then and I still think it's stupid. I've never been back.

I spent a lot of my last two years out east skiing at MRG.

When there’s good snow there’s no other mountain I’d rather be skiing at. Unless the lines are 45 minutes long. I don’t remember it being that bad in the early 90’s but my standards have changed and it’s been a long time.

The Mad River Valley is the spot to go for variety and that quaint Vermont experience everyone loves. Get some cheese, good beer, a taco at Mad Taco (sampling hot sauces required) and your in for a good time. I had Sugarbush season passes for four years in college and never thought twice about missing out at Stowe or other spots. Mt. Ellen is the best when the main hill gets busy and has fantastic trees if you know where to look, it also is home to the best terrain park in Northern VT if thats your thing.

If looking for pure convenience Jay is the spot to be. Stay slope side and get a ticket and lodging deal. Waterpark for when the kids need a break from skiing and you literally do not need to get back in the car once you are there. These would be two very different experiences but both have the potential for fantastic skiing and riding.

Unless it is a powder day or holiday, it is pretty rare for lines to hit 45 minutes. You can also avoid the worst of the Single line by hitting it early and late, riding the double in between.

After last season, MRG appears to be taking a more restrictive stance on attendance as they realized that less total guests makes for a better experience. They limited season pass sales and will limit day ticket sales as well, encouraging pre-purchase. The mountain has always been limited in capacity based on the size of their parking lot. But the extra restrictions should ensure that no one has to wait an hour for a ride on the Single, ever.

...this along with American Flatbread, Sugarbush, MRG and proximity to Brandon Gap is what make the Mad River Valley one of my favorite places in the world!
