East Coast Ski Trip Outside of NY

But then they wouldn't get to experience the #1 rated family mountain on the east coast, which also happens to have some rad expert terrain.
Smuggs for me ;)
Yes, but would @lukoson really want to take his kids on the triple-blacks at Smuggs? I looked at the double-black under the lift. Not for me, thank you very much. Not with northeast snow conditions. :)

Send it!

I didn't realize MRG and Sugar Bush were so close. That may well seal the deal. Two iconic VT mountains in the same trip.
If you do go up to the Mad River Valley, stop by and have a meal at the Mad River Barn. I stayed there during my trip. It was soon after they had set up the Annex rooms. There is a lot of history and connections between the Mad River Barn and the MRG mountain.

there's plenty of terrain options at Smuggs, and their kids ski school is quite good.

Well, maybe if there was two feet of power. But then driving around Vermont would be stressful. ;)

During the solo ski safari that was based on meeting a friend at MRG, I opted to drive north of a snowstorm that was starting up in southern VT. I had enough snow driving experience to get around in a 2WD minivan, but didn't want to push my luck. I had a full day to explore Sugarbush. That meant I rode all the lifts, including the lifts beginners start on. Totally lucked out since a powder storm had dumped after the lifts closed on Sunday afternoon. The timing of the trip was based on going to Lake Placid to pick up my daughter from North Country School for spring break.

Actually 3 - Glen Ellen is basically a separate ski ski area from Sugarbush/Lincoln Peak. The Mad River Valley has some of the best terrain in VT along with decent natural snow.
Riding the lift over to Glen Ellen for the first time is quite an experience!

Three day trip with some variety targeting VT? MRV trip with one day each at Lincoln, Ellen, and MRG is a no brainer (so long as everyone skis). Stay at one place instead of driving between resorts, easy. Don't try to jump back and forth between Lincoln and Ellen. Do Slidebrook and back just to do it, but try to spend a full day working over each mountain rather than jumping back and forth. Only caveat would be time of year, MRG is natural snow dependent and could possibly not be fully open earlier in the season (heck, bad weather can shut the place down in January).

I’m interested in that single chair. Seems very cool and relaxing.
