Driving in NY

"Campers", I call them, they are the bane of my existence. The semi drivers are the worst, they will pull out from behind a fellow trucker on hills and go 1 mph faster than the guy they're passing, what's the point? Happens all the time. Even worse when they STAY in the passing lane after passing their buddy.

And on a three lane highway, truckers generally drive in the middle lane. WTF.

2,830 lane-miles of state-maintained roads in Adirondack Park receive an average of 38 tons of salt per winter.

Paul Smith’s says, "About 160,000 metric tons of road salt (NaCl) is applied to roads in the Adirondack Park every year, making road salt one of the most significant regional pollutants in terms of annual load.”
So 160K/2830 = 56.5.
Who does math these daze?
It’s still more than a f*ckton of salt.

So we left Whiteface yesterday with a detour in in Pittsburgh for a funeral this morning, nice little 8 and a halfish hour drive. Now I know what the “salt test area“ signs are about. Was a beautiful start in the morning with intermittant light snow and sun but after you cross the blue line you might as well be in Kansas. @comingfromPGH there’s no way I could do ‘burg to Gore on a regular basis, it’s a LONG 6-7 hours. Some rides are broken up by legs/ sections and scenery, that one not so much

Yeah there’s something about PA highways that just crushes the soul. I can’t put my finger on what it is but it’s real

The “bear went over the mountain” song kind of drive, one after the other, they never did say what they hell the bear saw and I really don’t remember a specific part of driving through Pa , ground hog day syndrome?

Lol, 90 might as well have been PA. The only thing of any interest were the grapevines as you get to the border
