Catamount Conditions

Catamount was a icy crowded mess today. One of the most aggressive lift lne crowds I have been in. Unimpressed

We were there yesterday and had a very different experience. We had to wait in a decent sized line for the quad (less than 10 minutes) a few times but it was well organized and everybody seemed to listen to the liftie directing traffic.

Above observations reminds me of driving in Milan except no lifties/police..
If ya weren’t driving aggressively ya could cause problems.

Saw this and thought somebody might be interested

Unfortunately, Catamount cancelled the event with Jeremy Davis when they decided there was no way to open the slopes on Feb. 23.

It was easy to see why the slopes were closed. We decided to have lunch in Great Barrington and it was easiest to drop by Catamount to confirm that the event wasn't happening. There were a couple people working the phones at the ticket windows.

In contrast, Butternut was pretty busy. Perhaps partially because Catamount was closed. The primary parking lot was almost full. Like the other ski areas in the area, day tickets are holiday rates this week.

Wow! I skied there on Monday and conditions were spring like but pretty good. I thought they did a great job grooming with what they had to work with. While the Schaefers have made many improvements since buying the place it still doesn't have the snowmaking power of Berkshire East. Looks like the rain really took a toll on the place.

Gonna hit B.East Sat followed by either Magic or Cat on Sun, depending on condition reports from Sat at each place.

Based on what I saw driving past Catamount this morning, really won't be much open even by the weekend. Looked like 1-2 routes down from the top, plus 2-3 ways down on the far side. I noticed there were fan guns at the base that seemed done for the season. There were regulars showing up at 8:30 this morning, but many were ski team families.

Presumably Magic will get more snow from the storm than Catamount.

What happened this year??? We had season passes for years when the kids were young. Always a great family mountian. They always had snow and were regularly open until the end on March. Thunder Ridge, an hour south continues to blow as much snow as possible. Do they have staffing issues, mechanical issues.... Sad to see.
