Catamount was a icy crowded mess today. One of the most aggressive lift lne crowds I have been in. Unimpressed
Hmm . . . I'll be in the Berkshires that week. Now to find my copy of the book.
Wow! I skied there on Monday and conditions were spring like but pretty good. I thought they did a great job grooming with what they had to work with. While the Schaefers have made many improvements since buying the place it still doesn't have the snowmaking power of Berkshire East. Looks like the rain really took a toll on the place.Unfortunately, Catamount cancelled the event with Jeremy Davis when they decided there was no way to open the slopes on Feb. 23.
It was easy to see why the slopes were closed. We decided to have lunch in Great Barrington and it was easiest to drop by Catamount to confirm that the event wasn't happening. There were a couple people working the phones at the ticket windows.
In contrast, Butternut was pretty busy. Perhaps partially because Catamount was closed. The primary parking lot was almost full. Like the other ski areas in the area, day tickets are holiday rates this week.
